Trump to Congress: Stop Talking and Start Acting on My Housing Affordability Plan

President Trump took to social media Monday to implore Congress to get to work on one of his priorities, affordability — more specifically, housing affordability. The quintessential dream of home ownership is drifting further and further away as young people see starter homes going for over $1 million and lose faith that they’ll ever have a chance.

One culprit, according to the president: institutional investors. They have no place in the residential housing market, he believes, and he wants them out:

As I said at my State of the Union Address on February 25th, the American Dream of Homeownership is under attack. For example, Rachel Wiggins, a mom of two, from Houston, placed bids on 20 homes, and lost all of those bids to gigantic Investment Firms that bypassed inspection, paid all cash, and turned those houses into rentals, stealing away her American Dream — She was devastated! Stories like this are why I signed an Executive Order to ban large Wall Street Investment Firms from buying up single-family homes. Also, in my speech, I called for Congress to save the American Dream of Homeownership, and ban these purchases, PERMANENTLY! Senators Bernie Moreno and Tim Scott have worked to ensure my call becomes a reality, and have a Bill which has passed the Senate with nearly 90 votes. I am asking Congress to pass that Bill, the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act, which would ensure that homes are for people, not Corporations. Thank you for your attention to this matter! President Trump is right on. America was not founded for big tech billionaires and commercial developers.

She was founded for God-fearing Americans to build their lives on their own land. President Trump is protecting the American virtue of home ownership and putting Americans over hedge funds. Let’s get this PASSED.

The 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act passed the Senate in March but is currently stalled in the House. 

While it aims to streamline the regulatory process for building new homes, it also includes restrictions on large institutional investors from buying single-family residences, which has been controversial because some economists say they play a pivotal role in the rental market. Turn them away, they say, and you will have fewer available properties to rent.

Or just maybe regular people looking for retirement income could have a chance to become landlords. Just sayin'.
