The Washington Post reported Monday that multiple high-ranking D.C. police officials have been notified that they are soon to be served their walking papers amid allegations that they fudged crime data to make themselves look better.

House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (KY-01) said Tuesday that his investigations are a major factor leading to this overdue accountability — but he wants more:

The Post said there could be more reckoning coming:

Multiple high-ranking D.C. police officials have been served papers saying the department intends to fire them, according to three officials familiar with the situation.

At least some of the proposed terminations are related to an investigation the department conducted into the manipulation of crime data following Republican-led probes into the matter, according to the officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss a sensitive internal process.

The terminations portend a potentially sweeping shake-up among top department leadership.

Assistant Chief LaShay Makal and Second District Commander Tatjana Savoy have been placed on administrative leave, while two other senior officials, Assistant Chief Andre Wright and former Third District Commander Michael Pulliam, were already on administrative leave and could face further punishment.

The scandal already caused former Metro Police (MPD) Chief Pamela Smith to resign in disgrace in December, 2025, as we reported:

D.C. Police Chief Resigns Almost 2 Years Before Her Contract Expires; Union Questions Timing

As RedState’s Ward Clark wrote at the time, Comer’s Oversight Committee uncovered some serious alleged wrongdoing by Smith:

We have been covering the sudden resignation of the District of Columbia's police chief, Pamela Smith. Now, thanks to an investigation by the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, we have a much clearer picture as to the reasons behind Chief Smith's resignation; namely, the testimony from several of her subordinates that she pressured them to alter records to make the crime rates in the District look much less dire than they actually were. It was these crime rates that prompted President Trump to deploy the National Guard to the capital city to restore order.

Now it’s time for the full truth to come out, and Comer vows to get his hands on every scrap of paper associated with the force’s internal probe.

I’ve seen pundits opine that these House GOP investigative committees accomplish nothing except for producing strongly-worded letters. I doubt many D.C. police officials are feeling that way right now.

Editor’s Note: The American people overwhelmingly support President Trump’s law and order agenda.
