We’ve been reporting on Saturday night’s chaos at the White House Correspondents' Association dinner, where shots were fired, and President Trump and the First Lady had to be whisked off to safety by Secret Service Agents. In the aftermath, there has been discussion about whether to proceed with the gala, with the president affirming that he wanted the show to go on.
Now, however, according to the president, that’s not going to happen. He posted to social media minutes ago: His full message at 9:36 pm ET:
Law Enforcement has requested that we leave the premises, consistent with protocol, which we will do, immediately. I will be giving a press conference in 30 minutes from the White House Press Briefing Room. The First Lady, plus the Vice President, and all Cabinet members, are in perfect condition. We will be speaking to you in a half an hour. I have spoken with all the representatives in charge of the event, and we will be rescheduling within 30 days. President DONALD J. TRUMP

Breaking: Shots Fired at White House Correspondents' Dinner, Trump Evacuated
It was a wild scene, but thankfully, no serious injuries have been reported by those in attendance.
President Donald Trump was swiftly escorted off stage by Secret Service after shots were fired at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington, DC, on Saturday. Trump, Vice President JD Vance and Cabinet members are all safe, sources said.
“The shooter has been apprehended,” Trump said on social media, commending law enforcement for acting “quickly and bravely.”
The president said he is heading back to the White House at the request of law enforcement and will give a news conference soon. He also said the dinner will be rescheduled within 30 days.
Even as events continue to unfold, journalists on-scene are filing dramatic reports.
