As RedState’s Sister Toldjah reported Monday, all eyes now “turn to Swalwell's Bestie, Sen. Ruben Gallego” following the lightning-quick, brutal demise of former Rep. Eric Swalwell's (CA-14) career following allegations of sex crimes.
What did the Arizona Democrat senator and close friend of Swalwell know, and when did he know it?
We got some answers Tuesday as Gallego faced reporters, but his explanations will leave a whole lot of observers unsatisfied. He basically said he had no idea, was completely lied to and fooled, and although he heard a rumor or two, he is certainly shocked to find out that shenanigans were occurring, shocked!
He faced the music for over half an hour:
Gallego: “There’s a lot of rumors going on about me and my family”

“Eric Swalwell lied to all of us. He lied to the most powerful people in the country”

But, reporters wanted to know, didn’t these rumors concern you, considering the fact that your families hung out together, travelled together, and even rode camels together?
Sen. Ruben Gallego on Rep. Eric Swalwell: "I heard rumours of him being flirty." pic.twitter.com/kWe25dtBRR

He looked a little jumpy as he explained that Swalwell was apparently living “a double life” and had repeatedly “lied” to him.
REPORTER: What were the rumors that you heard?
GALLEGO: Yeah, it was flirty. That it was flirty.
REPORTER: And that was when, about what year was it?
GALLEGO: I mean that was through… We've heard that. We've heard that throughout.
Wait a minute... If you’ve heard that throughout, why didn’t that raise flags for you?
A female reporter pressed him on that, asking if he’d ever talked to Swalwell about the chatter.
GALLEGO: So I heard rumors of him being flirty.
REPORTER: And that wasn't an issue enough for you to not trust him to watch your kids or be close with him?
GALLEGO: Because, you know, you hear this, and then when you're close to somebody and you, you know, you know his wife, you see this.
You see that relationship, you know that, like, it maybe just isn't true.
If someone is hanging with my kids, and there are rumors out there, I tell you what I don’t think: “It maybe just isn't true.” I sure as hell make an effort to find out.
Despite his apparent outrage, Gallego got a little evasive when asked about his potential cooperation in any probes:
Gallego said he would release “any and all information” (messages with Swalwell, etc) *if* he is legally required to
— Julie Tsirkin (@news_jul) April 14, 2026
I asked Gallego why he won’t just release it all now:
“…just exposing more and more is only going to ask more and more and carry these lies further.” pic.twitter.com/odP8El9Had
If Gallego thought speaking to the press would make this all go away for him, I think he may be in for a rude awakening. Many will find it hard to believe that he didn’t have the slightest clue about Swalwell’s exploits — and those who do believe explanations will be left to question, how could you not know?
