The Bill Is Due: 'Mostly Peaceful' Anti-ICE Riots Rack Up Huge Costs for Los Angeles

The not-at-all peaceful Los Angeles anti-ICE riots did more than turn downtown LA into a no-go zone and cause chaos and damage; they also cost the city a fortune in police overtime and other expenses. This is what Mayor Karen Bass and Gov. Gavin Newsom condone.

The toll comes in at almost $20 million of our taxpayer dollars:

The anti-Immigration and Customs Enforcement protests-turned-riots last week in Los Angeles have cost the city nearly $20 million, with much of that coming from costs associated with the Los Angeles Police Department.

City Manager Matt Szabo told media outlets that the city has racked up $19.7 million in costs related to the riots, a number he said will likely climb.

Scenes like this have been playing out regularly in the nation’s second most populous city:

The bulk of the money went to paying for overtime by LAPD officers, but there was plenty of destruction that had to be accounted for as well:

The LAPD racked up nearly $17 million in extra costs, with more than $11 million of that in overtime. Further, LAPD police cruisers incurred $240,000 worth of damage. The Los Angeles Fire Department's response to the riots costs $1.2 million, Szabo said.

Although the media would have you believe that the protests are comprised of mostly hard-working moms and dads just trying to make their voices heard, the results show otherwise:

The riots produced more than $593,000 in damage to city buildings and it will cost $523,200 to clean the streets. Graffiti cleanup was at more than $85,000 through Friday, a number Szabo said will rise.

"It's critical, as the mayor has said and members of the council have said, the city will maintain public safety. But this level of extraordinary deployment is very expensive, and it's costing the taxpayers," Szabo told ABC7, adding that the costs are "not sustainable."

But wait, there’s more: President Donald Trump sent in the National Guard and 700 Marines to help out after California officials proved they were not up to the job, and that’s not cheap either:

On federal ledgers, President Donald Trump’s deployment of the California National Guard and U.S. Marines to quell the rioting in LA will cost the federal government $134 million for a 60-day mission. Trump federalized the guard over the objections of Gov. Gavin Newsom and LA Mayor Karen Bass, both Democrats.

The Democrats will continue to downplay the ongoing riots and portray them as just folks enjoying their First Amendment rights. What they’ll ignore is that the First Amendment doesn’t say you can attack law enforcement officers. They will also neglect to mention that the violent antics of the mobs are costing the taxpayers a whole lot of money.

They don't really care about that, though.

Editor's Note: President Trump isn't going to allow lawlessness to reign in America. We will not have a repeat of 2020's "Summer of Love."
