The formerly “most trusted name in news” outlet CNN made a rare quality decision in August 2022 when they summarily fired “Reliable Sources” misinformation king Brian Stelter for his repeated stetching of the truth, but for reasons known only to themselves, they rehired him in September 2024 as their “chief media analyst.”

Frequently referred to by critics as “Tater” for his uncanny resemblance to the widely consumed starchy edible tuber known as a potato, the gaslighting pundit quickly returned to his misinformation ways and was at it again Saturday regarding the tragic and horrific shooting of two Democratic lawmakers and their spouses in Minnesota. As we reported, former Democratic–Farmer–Labor Party (DFL) Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark Hortman were killed in the attacks, while State Senator John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette, were injured and are currently in the hospital. The gunman is still on the run.

But Stelter didn’t need to wait for the facts to come in; he already had a hot potato take ready at hand:

What direction, exactly, Mr. Stelter? We know very little about this deranged assassin’s motivations, and like so many of these nutjobs, his political leanings seem to be all over the place. If you’re trying to lay this atrocious act at the feet of Donald Trump and the actions he’s been taking, you’ve once again failed miserably, as you so often do:

Fox News media critic Joe Concha (fairly) nuked Stelter’s biased take, as did others. Here is Stephen L. Miller, not to be confused with the Trump advisor and fierce White House defender of the same name, but a prominent critic in his own right:

He is referring to ABC’s Terry Moran, a veteran reporter fired Tuesday by his appalling network for his unhinged attacks against… the other Stephen Miller. I know, it gets confusing.

How about just for once, liberal media pundits wait for the facts to come out before “pouncing?” But that would be journalism, a job most of the lamestream media seems no longer capable of doing.

For a minute there, under the direction of ousted CNN CEO Chris Licht, the outlet seemed to be at least making an effort at returning to honest journalism. But they quickly gave up that attempt and scurried back to their biased, nakedly partisan coverage. It’s unfortunate for America, because—even if you don’t watch the Misinformation Network—entirely too many do, and it’s one reason we got Joe Biden for four horrible years. It’s inexplicable why they rehired the Tater, and as he continues to BS the nation, it becomes yet another in a long line of stains on a network that once, unbelievably, was proud. 

Now they’re nothing more than a joke.
