'Such a Dishonest Interview Already'—Trump Sits With NBC, and the Media Response Is Utterly Predictable

Townhall Media

Donald Trump sat down with NBC News’ “Meet the Press” on Sunday, and as usual, it appears as if the nation’s leftist media gathered together in a smoky back room and all decided on what headlines they would run. How about a little originality, folks?

Here’s a sample of them showing a slavish devotion to the one narrative they’ve decided to focus on:

USA TODAY: Trump says 'I don't know' when asked if he must uphold the Constitution

NBC News: Trump, asked if he has to 'uphold the Constitution,' says, 'I don't know'

Washington Post: Trump says, ‘I don’t know,’ when asked if he’s required to uphold Constitution

Remember this "controversy?"

Of course, the president’s answer was more nuanced than they imply, and he explicitly said he would adhere to rulings by the Supreme Court. Asked by partisan host Kristen Welker about the case of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, the illegal alien MS-13, wife-beating gangbanger who was deported to El Salvador and the courts’ demands that he be returned, Trump responded:

Welker: In a 9-0 decision, the Supreme Court directed your administration to facilitate the return, you've talked about this in the past, of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, from a prison in El Salvador, whose deportation your administration called an "administrative error." You said in a recent interview you could bring him back but you won't. Are you defying the Supreme Court, sir?

Trump: No. I'm relying on the attorney general of the United States, Pam Bondi, who's very capable, doing a great job. Because I'm not involved in the legality or the illegality. I have lawyers to do that and that's why I have a great DOJ. We have a great one. We had a very corrupt one before.

Now we have a great one. And they're not viewing the decision the way you said it. They don't view it that way at all. They think it's a totally different decision.

He followed up by saying that although the issue is in contention, he is not secretly plotting to defy the courts (emphasis mine):

I have to respond by saying, again, I have brilliant lawyers that work for me, and they are going to obviously follow what the Supreme Court said

What you said is not what I heard the Supreme Court said. They have a different interpretation.

This is the part of the interview, though, that the media will mostly ignore, even though he outlines exactly what the American people voted for:

He pretty much summed up the issues that got him elected in that one sentence. He also hit back at Welker when she tried to blame him for rising prices:

The commander in chief also defended his tariffs, which he said are forcing China to negotiate in good faith and stop taking advantage of us:

Leave it to our corrupt press to obsess over three words—“I don’t know”—instead of focusing on the substance of what he was saying in the long interview. Certainly, it’s fair game to disagree with Trump and his policies, but their constant effort to misrepresent his statements highlights what is so very wrong with corporate media.

Very fine people,” indeed. Here's the full sit-down:
