We’ve heard so much in recent years about the “Deep State,” the entrenched government bureaucracy that survives from administration to administration and runs the country no matter who’s in charge.

But is it actually a thing?

New York City Mayor Eric Adams thinks so:

New York City Mayor Eric Adams admitted during a podcast on Wednesday that he believes the "deep state" is real. 

"I don't want to sound [like a] conspiracy theor[ist], but there's a permanent government," Adams told Andrew Schulz on his "Flagrant" podcast. "There are people that see presidents and mayors come and go. Their attitude is, ‘We’ll wait you out.'" 

Adams, who said on Monday that he is leaving the Democratic Party to run as an independent in his reelection campaign, praised FBI director Kash Patel’s 2023 book, "Government Gangsters: The Deep State, the Truth, and the Battle for Our Democracy."

As we reported, Adams was hit with federal corruption charges not long after criticizing the Biden administration for its disastrous border policies, which enabled millions of illegal aliens to pour into the country. Coincidence? I think not.

It’s quite surprising to see a (formerly) Democrat mayor of a deep-blue city promoting a book by tough-on-crime FBI Director Kash Patel, but—credit to Adams—he saw truth in the what Patel had to say in his 2023 tome, Government Gangsters: The Deep State, the Truth, and the Battle for Our Democracy:

Is the term “deep state” thrown around too much, and is it a red herring? Adams says, actually, no:

After Schulz said the term "deep state" is used too much, Adams told him, "It's not used too much. It's real, brother." 

"Kash was in the [Department of Defense]. He was in the FBI. He prosecuted terrorists. So he comes with this wealth of knowledge, and the way he breaks it down, it's just unbelievable. What this ‘deep state’ is about and why it's so important for Americans that we cannot have a weaponizing of our prosecutorial powers," Adams said. 

Adams also brought up the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York (SDNY), which prosecuted him for bribery under the Biden administration. The charges alleged Adams used his title to get illicit campaign donations and opulent travel from Turkish foreign nationals and others. 

Trump's Justice Department requested the charges be dropped and the case was dismissed with prejudice Tuesday, meaning the charges can't be brought again. 

Kash Patel has already reinvigorated the FBI’s reputation, which was so thoroughly ruined by the corrupt reigns of attention-thirsty James Comey and feckless Christopher Wray:

Eric Adams is turning out to be way more interesting than I initially gave him credit for. When he first burst onto the national scene, I assumed he was yet another blue state bureaucract toeing the progressive criminal-loving, taxation-happy line and was just another foot soldier in the woke assault on American values. He has since turned out to be more than that, however. While I’m not suggesting he be suddenly nominated for Conservative Icon of the Year, he’s light-years ahead of folks like depraved Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz.

His prospects for reelection as the Big Apple’s mayor don’t look good at the moment—unbelievably, disgraced former Gov. Andrew Cuomo is leading in the polls—so we’ll just have to see how that one plays out.

In the meantime, he has corroborated what we all already know—the entrenched Deep State has gotten entirely too powerful. I appreciate the truth, no matter which side of the political aisle it comes from.
