Chicago Councilman Poses Novel Solution: Wealthy Neighbors Should Sign Up to House Illegal Immigrants

An Illinois councilman has an interesting idea for dealing with the state's rapidly growing influx of illegal immigrants.

Councilman Josh McBroom, who represents the affluent district of Naperville, suggested that residents of his "affluent community" take illegals into their homes to remove the rapidly increasing burden on the state's taxpayers.

"In the event of a massive influx of migrants, I do believe our city is prepared,” Councilman McBroom said during a discussion about housing transient migrant families on their way to Chicago.

“The public should also know taxpayer dollars are not, and will not, be used to house any potential migrants in the neighborhood. There’s been some misinformation out there.”

McBroom added he would not support using taxpayer money to fund the state's response.

“I’m not going to support using other peoples’ money to house or aid. I do know there’s a lot of people who do care. I think we live in a compassionate community,” he continued.

“We do have a very affluent community, a lot of big homes, and what I'd like to do is direct staff to create a signup sheet for individuals that would be willing to house migrant families.”

When questioned about the logistics of his idea, McBroom suggested that community members could contact an email address to express an interest in joining a list of potential migrant hosts.

Unfortunately for Broom (and the Illinois taxpayer), just four out of 11 council members signaled their support for the idea.

Although the idea may not appeal to the majority of Americans who want to see the country control its borders, McBroom's suggestion probably has an ulterior motive of exposing how few wealthy Democratic voters would be willing to accept an unknown individual into their home.

What is for sure, however, is that the state of Illinois is close to breaking point as a result of the illegal immigration crisis, as Texas Gov. Greg Abbott continues to send illegals northwards to so-called sanctuary cities such as New York and Chicago.

Earlier in January, Illinois Gov J.B. Pritzker sent a letter to Abbott practically begging him to stop sending illegals to deep blue cities such as Chicago.

"The next few days are a threat to the families and children you are sending here. I am pleading with you to at least pause these transports in order to save lives," Pritzker wrote.

"I plead with you for mercy for the thousands of people who are powerless to speak for themselves. Please, while winter is threatening vulnerable people's lives, suspend your transports and do not send more people to our state."

Abbott, meanwhile, was having none of it.

"Governor Pritzker was all too proud to call Illinois 'the most welcoming state in the nation' until Governor Abbott began transporting migrants to Chicago," his spokesperson told the American-Statesman.

The spokesperson added:

Instead of complaining about migrants sent from Texas, where we are also preparing to experience severe winter weather across the state, Governor Pritzker should call on his party leader to finally do his job and secure the border — something he continues refusing to do.

Until President Biden steps up and does his job to secure the border, Texas will continue transporting migrants to sanctuary cities to help our local partners respond to this Biden-made crisis.
