It's a classic liberal Democrat move. They vote for a bunch of insane policies that wreck the places they live, then when those policies are implemented, they are angry about it. When New Yorkers elected Mayor Zohran Mamdani last November, they knew what they were getting. A Democratic socialist (communist) who would enact the policies he told them he would. They voted for all of it — at least, a majority of them did — now they are complaining.
Late Sunday night, hundreds of angry protesters swarmed the Brooklyn construction site of a proposed new homeless shelter for men. Protesters could be seen lined up along several blocks in Bensonhurst, where they called on Mamdani to halt construction of the shelter.

Nearly 100 NYPD officers, some in riot gear, attempted to subdue a crowd that pushed over barricades and even surrounded and tried to block a moving construction truck. Construction on the proposed shelter is rumored to begin as early as Monday morning.

The shelter will house 150 homeless men, many of whom are struggling with substance abuse, mental health issues, or both, in the largely Asian neighborhood. One protester stated:
“We’re here to protest this homeless shelter, which is going to bring danger to the neighborhood. We’ll stay here all night and come back tomorrow night and the night after that and keep coming back until the mayor shuts down construction of this shelter. This is a major thoroughfare that mothers and children and elderly people take every day. The subway is right here. Homeless shelters that house dangerous people need to be in isolated areas, not in the middle of major transportation hubs.”

“Mamdani thinks he can put homeless shelters in any neighborhood he wants because he wants the homeless to feel like they are at home, because maybe being around families will rehabilitate them. He could put shelters anywhere in the city, but he chooses to put them right in the middle of our neighborhood. He doesn’t care about the danger that poses to us. Look at all the cops that showed up tonight. Will the cops show up when some homeless drug addict lays his hands on a child?”
Plans for this shelter have been in the works since November of 2023, long before Mamdani. But there's just one problem: Asian New Yorkers voted for this. Almost half — 49.1 percent of Asian voters in the Big Apple — voted for Zohran Mamdani. He has stated that, “My administration is focused on ensuring every New Yorker experiencing homelessness not only has access to shelter, but to spaces that are safe, humane, and truly livable.”
Of course, it is not just Asian New Yorkers who are now getting what they voted for and are now angry about it. The GOP candidate in the last mayoral election got just 5 percent of the vote. Mamdani got 57 percent, and former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (a Democrat who ran as an Independent) received 37 percent. Do the math, and that's 94 percent of Brooklyn voters casting their votes for Democrats and, whether they knew it or not, a new homeless shelter in their neighborhood.

All of the things residents of the neighborhood are concerned about could indeed happen. But now, they are not at the "find out" phase; they are smack dab in the middle of the "getting what you voted for" phase.
This is a win/win situation. New York and California are driving out all those wealthy people they hate so much, while more homeless, illegals, criminals and degenerates that they love are moving in. I'm sure it will all work out.
