On Thursday, the House Oversight Committee, led by Chairman Rep. James Comer (R-KY), issued a subpoena to Anthony Bernal, a former assistant to President Joe Biden and senior advisor to former First Lady Jill Biden, to appear before the committee for a July 16 deposition. Bernal is being ordered to appear before the committee regarding the investigation into the alleged cover-up of Biden's declining cognitive abilities, and whether some of the executive actions he took as president could have been illegitimate.

Jill Biden’s work husband, Anthony Bernal, must appear before @GOPoversight.

Bernal had agreed to sit for a voluntary transcribed interview on June 26, but that changed when the White House Counsel's Office stated it would waive executive privilege. He then refused to appear. A letter sent to Bernal by Comer, along with the subpoena, read in part:
"Given your close connection with both former President Biden and former First Lady Jill Biden, the Committee sought to understand if you contributed to an effort to hide former President Biden’s fitness to serve from the American people. You have refused the Committee’s request. However, to advance the Committee’s oversight and legislative responsibilities and interests, your testimony is critical."

But as RedState's Katie Jerkovich reported, Comer was a bit less formal in a statement on social media, saying bluntly,
"Now that the White House has waived executive privilege, it's abundantly clear that Anthony Bernal – Jill Biden's so-called 'work husband' – never intended to be transparent about Joe Biden's cognitive decline and the ensuing cover-up. With no privilege left to hide behind, Mr. Bernal is now running scared, desperate to bury the truth. The American people deserve answers and accountability, and the Oversight Committee will not tolerate this obstruction. I will promptly issue a subpoena to compel Anthony Bernal's testimony before the Committee."

Bernal is among five former Biden administration officials who have been called in to testify about what they witnessed regarding Joe Biden's cognitive abilities and the daily operations of the Biden White House. Biden's physician, Dr. Kevin O'Connor, has also been subpoenaed in connection with the investigation and will give a closed-door deposition on July 9. Former senior Biden aides Annie Tomasini and Ashley Williams are also scheduled to give voluntary testimony in July.
Joe Biden's inner circle, elected Democrats, and the media all said he was sharp as a tack. Biden himself, when asked about his health, would say, "Watch me." But whatever those closest to Biden were trying to hide was thrust into the national spotlight for all Americans to see during the June 27, 2024, presidential debate between Biden and then-candidate Donald Trump. Biden was forced to drop out of the race in July of 2024.

Because of valid questions about Biden's mental decline, including his ability to authorize use of an autopen in certain instances, the Oversight Committee is attempting to get to the bottom of just who exactly was running the White House in Biden's waning days in office, including issuing a large number of presidential pardons to family members and others. RedState's Rusty Weiss reported on Tuesday that former Biden senior advisor Neera Tanden stated she had been authorized to use the autopen to sign Biden's name, but wasn't entirely clear as to the source of that authorization. Tanden also said that she had been given authorization for use of the autopen from October 2021 to May 2023.
Bottom line, the American people have the right to know how cognitively impaired Joe Biden was and who was running the country for four years, and the people involved must be held accountable. Donald Trump summed it up best, saying, "This conspiracy marks one of the most dangerous and concerning scandals in American history."
