During a Saturday press conference, the Republican Senate leadership laid out the day's agenda on passing the SAVE America Act in the upper chamber. But there was more to it than just one vote on America's election integrity.
Leader John Thune (R-SD) opened the presser by stating the U.S. Senate is "in the middle of a lengthy and spirited debate" on the legislation, calling it "common sense" and "overwhelmingly supported by the American people."

"You probably heard some falsehoods coming out of the Democrats throughout the course of the week," Thune continued. "Probably paramount among those was when [Minority] Leader Schumer answered a question, and said, "Well, we're not really opposed to photo ID." He added that that was quickly debunked when the Senate voted on a proposal sponsored by Sen. Jon Husted (R-OH), which was "limited" to the photo ID issue.
I heard Chuck Schumer say, “Our objection as Democrats is not to photo ID.”

So I gave Senate Democrats a chance to prove it—by bringing a simple voter ID requirement bill to the floor.
They blocked it.https://t.co/t8pBRLnDfG
"The Democrats not only blocked it," he said, "but their counterproposal was a piece of legislation...that would specifically ban photo ID nationwide." Thune said they were not serious, and on the "wrong side" here. The poll numbers bear out that point, literally an 80-20 issue:
.@SenSchumer has been claiming all week that he and Democrats support voter ID, yet Democrats blocked a standalone voter ID bill on the Senate floor.

⁰By blocking @SenJonHusted's bill and unanimously opposing the SAVE America Act, Democrats are on the wrong side of the issues. pic.twitter.com/Y4qsI3ya8C

During a media Q and A, Leader Thune said that there's more on Saturday's voting agenda than just the voting security legislation, checking off three items to put the Dems on record:
🚨 BREAKING: Leader John Thune reveals the Senate is about to VOTE on adding the following Trump-backed policies to the SAVE America Act

1. No transgender mutilations for kids
2. No men in women's sports
3. Mass mail-in ballot restrictions
It needs 60 votes.

Those are:
- women and girls' sports/transgender
- Ending "transgender care" for minors
- Restricting universal vote-by-mail
Sen.Shelley Capito (R-WV) spoke at the press event on men in women's sports:
Standing up for our female athletes should be a given. It shouldn’t be a Republican or Democrat issue. It’s common sense.

Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) reminded everyone that free and fair elections are a winner with all voters, including Hispanic and Black Americans. It's not just Republicans who hate cheating:
The truth is: The great majority of Americans, including Hispanic and African Americans, support voter ID.

The SAVE America Act makes it easier to vote and harder to cheat. Let’s get it done for the American people, because commonsense election integrity isn’t partisan – it’s… pic.twitter.com/my8BBfbrLg
RedState will bring you coverage as the debate continues on the bill on Saturday, but here's just a taste from last night, with Sen. Eric Schmitt (R-MO) urging his colleagues in the conference to "stand up and fight" the Left when it truly counts:
Democrats can't debate the actual text of the SAVE America Act because they cannot defend what it exposes: open borders, open ballots, and open season on our nation's daughters.
— Senator Eric Schmitt (@SenEricSchmitt) March 21, 2026
This is the moment of truth. Will we stand by and manage decline or stand up and fight? pic.twitter.com/hziEW1jV62
