Democrats Swat Down a Measure to Ban Critical Race Theory in the Military

Critical Race Theory might’ve recently been put on a path for removal from American military academies. But congressional Democrats had other ideas.

Combat veteran and Republican Florida Rep. Mike Waltz — who sits on the House Armed Services Committee — introduced a CRT-banning measure Wednesday. As you likely know, non-civilian CRT has garnered a host of headlines over the past year and a half.

During summer of 2021, for instance, Lynne Chandler Garcia — associate professor of political science at the United States Air Force Academy — made news for schooling cadets with race-oriented ideology.

She defended herself via a Washington Post op-ed:

The United States was founded on a duality: liberalism and equal rights on the one hand; inequality, inegalitarianism and second-class citizenship on the other. … Racism was ingrained in the system from the beginning…

Teaching Critical Race Theory, Lynne claimed, helps those risking their lives for our nation “identify the structural racism and inequality that has been endemic in American society.”

Tennessee Republican Rep. Mark Green had a particularly notable response to Lynne’s ideas: Fire her.

The way Mark saw it, her comments constituted a “full-throttle attack” on the United States. “Her support for Critical Race Theory,” he insisted, leaves her “unqualified to teach in one of our prestigious military academies.”

Cadets at West Point…last year attended a seminar titled “Understanding Whiteness and White Rage.” Other courses at West Point teach cadets how to address their “whiteness,” according to recently leaked documents.

Rep. Mike Waltz wanted to gain ground in the other direction — at military academies and Department of Defense-run K-12 schools. But House Dems killed the legislation.

Last July, Mike wrote a piece for Fox News explaining the ramifications of CRT:

Imagine being a recent graduate from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and you are given your first orders as an infantry officer in command of a unit in an active war zone.

You are thousands of miles away from home and responsible for the lives under your command. Like in most instances, your unit is comprised of soldiers of mixed ethnicities, religions and backgrounds.

With all this in mind, you were also taught in a government-funded course that the institutions you serve and that your unit swore an oath to defend, are inherently racist, and that inherent inequality based on skin color should impact your decision making.

Does this impact your thinking as you order a soldier to move forward against a machine gun? Will you select a soldier of a different race because you have White guilt?
