In recent months, we've seen just a few too many people who came to the United States, legally or illegally, who have established themselves and then proceeded to go on rants about how evil and horrible America is. Some of them are even in Congress. Plenty of people are tired of this; why, one might ask, did they come here if America is all that bad?
Republican Representative Chip Roy (TX-21) has an answer in the Measures Against Marxism’s Dangerous Adherents and Noxious Islamists Act, which delightfully becomes an acronym as the MAMDANI Act.
Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas) on Monday introduced an immigration bill he dubbed the “MAMDANI Act.”
The Measures Against Marxism’s Dangerous Adherents and Noxious Islamists Act proposes amending the Immigration and Nationality Act, which dictates federal immigration law, to allow for the deportation, denaturalization, denial of citizenship or entry to any migrant that is a member of a socialist party, communist party, the Chinese Communist Party or Islamic fundamentalist party.
It also proposes imposing such restrictions on any migrant who “advocates” for socialism, communism, Marxism or Islamic fundamentalism, a sweeping term that includes “writing, districting, circulating, printing, displaying, possessing, or publishing any written, electronic, or printed matter” in support of those ideologies, according to the bill’s text.
Well, why not? Is there any particular reason we should embrace the importation of people who will work against everything the United States stands for? Is there any particular reason we should sit still while a literal fifth column establishes itself in the very institutions that made our nation what it is?
Chip Roy thinks not.

Rep. Roy's office has issued a press release on the bill. That release states:
“Why do we continue to import people who hate us? Not just for the last six years, but for the last 60 years, our immigration system has been cynically used to disadvantage American workers’ competitiveness in favor of mass-importing the third world. This has not just led to higher crime and lower wages, but also the promulgation of hostile ideologies fundamentally opposed to American values.
By targeting the Red-Green Alliance, this legislation deploys new tools to fight back against the Marxist and Islamist advance that has devastated Europe and has now arrived on our doorstep, especially in my home state of Texas,” said Congressman Roy.
Here's the problem: This bill probably won't pass the House, not with the GOP holding such a narrow majority. With the filibuster still in place, it certainly wouldn't make it through the Senate. Just because something is a good idea doesn't necessarily mean it will come to fruition, not in Washington.
Under current policy, it's much like having a burglar knock on your door, announce his intentions to rob you, and you opening the door and inviting him in. That's the level of stupidity that the MAMDANI Act is seeking to address, but it probably won't happen. It would be lovely to be wrong about that, but it's a safe bet that Rep. Roy's efforts here won't make it through Congress to land on President Trump's desk.
