All the pardons Joe Biden (let's be honest, Joe Biden's handlers) issued on the way out the White House door have been hotly discussed since Monday, and rightly so; presidential pardons are frequently one of the last things a president does on his way out, but boy howdy did the Biden administration break some new ground in just how shameless they were, pardoning Hunter for any action he has taken over the last decade, and then pre-emptively pardoning all sorts of Biden family members. And, of course, some political allies got preemptive pardons, too, not least of which was COVID lockdown master Dr. Anthony Fauci.
But the good (hah) doctor may not be out of the legal woods yet. RealClearInvestigation's Paul D. Thacker has some thoughts.
President Biden’s pardon of Dr. Anthony Fauci may protect the former National Institutes of Health official from immediate criminal prosecution, but some critics say he is not completely out of legal jeopardy and that public sentiment might still condemn the man who became known during the COVID-19 pandemic as “Mr. Science.”
In the days before Biden offered the pardon to Fauci, along with other critics of Donald Trump, some experts who have followed Fauci’s career and handling of the pandemic, as well as members of the Trump transition team, reiterated their assertion that Fauci perjured himself on several occasions during the pandemic – especially regarding his agency’s links to the lab in Wuhan, China, that might have created the virus that causes COVID-19.
The pardon addresses any COVID-related offenses, and is backdated to 2014—the year a U.S. ban on so-called "gain of function" virus research took effect -- research Fauci is accused of outsourcing to China.
Here's the thing: Members of Congress, most notably Senator Rand Paul (R-KY), a physician himself, aren't yet done with Dr. Fauci, and Fauci, thanks to the pardon, cannot invoke his 5th Amendment protection against self-incrimination. He can, however, face new charges for any dissembling he does in sworn testimony after the fact.
Sen. Rand Paul has vowed to continue investigating the COVID origins question, and sources tell RealClearInvestigations that Sen. Ron Johnson and House Republican investigators plan to do so as well. When testifying in those inquiries or answering written depositions, Fauci will be unable to dodge questions by invoking his Fifth Amendment protections against self-incrimination. “They can ask him if he lied before, replough old ground,” Foster said. “And if he lies about any prior lie, he can be prosecuted for that or held in contempt.”
It's not yet clear whether Dr. Fauci will be subpoenaed and dragged back in front of a Senate committee, but there remain far too many unanswered questions about the entire COVID-19 affair, Dr. Fauci's involvement with the policies resulting from the virus, and his possible involvement with the Wuhan laboratory and gain-of-function research.
It's the gain of function research that should draw attention. This research could very easily be perverted into biological weapons research, and of the triad of weapons of mass destruction - nuclear, biological, and chemical - biological agents are the only ones that are self-spreading, self-perpetuating, and the most difficult to protect populations from. Worse, it doesn't take a major industrial base to produce biological (or chemical) agents. It can be done in a small, illegal laboratory hidden, say, in the United States.

The Biden administration's pardon doesn't preclude Fauci from being brought up on state charges, either.
A Florida lawyers group is seeking the prosecution of Dr. Anthony Fauci for alleged crimes related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
"Murder, terrorism, and a host of abuses have been committed," the Vires Law Group said in a press release issued last week that calls for an investigation by Florida's attorney general.
Earlier this month, the National American Renaissance Movement submitted a grand jury petition to the Florida attorney general's office requesting an investigation into Fauci and several others for alleged crimes connected to the COVID-19 pandemic and coronavirus vaccination.
The petition accuses Fauci and others of fraud, domestic terrorism, murder, biological weapons violations, official and corporate misconduct, treason and crimes against humanity.
There have not, as of this writing, been any charges filed against Dr. Fauci at the state level in Florida or elsewhere. But the presidential pardon, we should note, does not preclude such charges.
"Mr. Science" may yet find himself facing Lady Justice.
