I think it is safe to say that after almost two weeks of watching and reading a LOT of Canadian material on all that is going on with our friendly neighbors to the north that I feel like an expert on all things in Canada.

Except for curling. I know Canadians love their sports on ice but that one eludes me.

If you have been following the pages here at Red State (which of course you should be) then you have read all about the magnificent movement happenings up in Canada with the Truckers protest and the absolutely god-awful response of it from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. If I were a conspiracy theorist I would think that the Trudeau government is sharing ideas with President Biden and that then would explain a great many things.

Erin O’Toole was ousted from the party’s top job, leaving his former deputy Candice Bergen to helm a divided caucus until its members elect a new leader with a new direction.

The Manitoba MP, who served as a minister of state in former prime minister Stephen Harper’s Conservative government, was chosen by her colleagues Wednesday evening.

Bergen, who was deputy leader of the Conservatives under O’Toole, has represented the riding of Portage–Lisgar since 2008 and was Opposition House leader from 2016 to 2020.

This will be the third leadership race since former prime minister Stephen Harper stepped down after losing to the Liberals in the 2015 election.

Conservative MP Scott Reid, the chair of the national caucus, says Bergen was one of nine candidates for an interim leader.

Erin O’Toole was the leader of the Conservative Party which was defeated by the coalition that backed Justin Trudeau in the national election last September. Trudeau and his Liberal Party did not win enough seats to be the majority outright in the Parliament but formed a coalition government to retain the Prime Minister’s chair again.

Now that there is an opening for the leader of the main opposition party to Trudeau and his group, the battle for that seat has begun and Pierre Poilievre has thrown his hat into the ring. The 42-year-old has served in the Canadian Parliament since 2004 and in various cabinet positions before 2015 when Trudeau became the leader of the country.

Just a couple of brief observations here.

Poilievre hits on a number of things in this 2-minute video and oddly enough it seems very similar to issues we are facing here in the states. Government is overspending; hardworking average citizens are being targeted while a favored criminal element goes on allowed to cause havoc.

He hits a gold mine of a point that both our countries share halfway through the video…

See here is the problem, Trudeau thinks he is your boss, and he has got it backwards, you’re the boss. That is why I’m running for Prime Minister, to put you back in charge of your life.

Both our countries for the past two years have suffered from those in government who seem to think that they are the final authority on how your everyday life should be run and how you should conduct yourself from your first breath of life to your last.

They have it wrong.

Poilievre goes on to talk about restoring freedom in a number of ways and mentions that “Smaller government makes room for bigger citizens,” which seems to be spot on.

After watching all the action in Canada for the past two weeks, it has become clear to me that our neighbors to the north have some very big and brave citizens who are ready to peacefully push for a smaller government. One that does not dictate for dictates’ sake in Ottawa and that never takes into account the repercussions of their actions.

We have the same issue here in Washington D.C. and the people of the north are showing us how it is done in a way that is enlightening. I’m sure there will be others to throw their hat into the ring to lead the conservative party but this is a very interesting start and I look forward to seeing how this ends up.

Hopefully in the removal of Justin Trudeau from office sooner rather than later.

In the meantime, I will try and figure out how curling is a thing. I might even try it.
