Here we go.

Tomorrow the Impeachment of the 45th President of the United States, Donald J. Trump goes into full action. Nancy Pelosi and the House Democrats were maneuvered into this by their freshman cheer squad to keep peace in the ranks of their newly elected majority. Now that the rushed impeachment articles will be tried, let’s just admit that everyone in D.C. knows that it is a stinking pile of crap and the Democrats have to salvage this somehow.

Trump will not be removed from office and no one in town believes otherwise. Even the kids over at MSNBC when they try to gin each other up have a dead look in their eyes. Some bluffs, you just can’t fake. So the only thing that Nancy and Chuck can try to do to salvage this clown show is winning the Senate in 2020.

They could do it.

According to The Hill

In Colorado, the Democrats’ leading candidate, John Hickenlooper, charges that drug prices are “crushing Colorado families,” references the House-passed bill to hold down those prices and links his opponent, Republican Sen. Cory Gardner, to the Senate leader who’s holding up that bill and others.

In Maine, Democrat Sara Gideon assails Republican Sen. Susan Collins for going along with McConnell’s drive to “jam our nation’s courts with unqualified, anti-choice judges.” (The incumbent Maine Republican has opposed a handful of the 187 Trump-appointed judges who have been confirmed.)

Iowa’s Theresa Greenfield, citing her opponent, charges that “Joni Ernst and Mitch McConnell will stop at nothing” to defund Planned Parenthood.

The GOP currently holds a 53 to 47 edge in the Senate. The Republicans this year will be defending 23 seats while the Democrats will only be defending 12. The three seats listed above will be extremely competitive for the Republican incumbents and could bring the number the chamber to an even 50-50 if the GOP lost them and kept everything else.

The Democrats also have some seats to defend in Alabama and my home state of Michigan so it is not exactly a cakewalk for the Dems.

The GOP though has to defend twice as many seats this cycle. The Democrats’ only hope is to put the pressure on Republicans like Susan Collins, Cory Gardner, and Joni Ernst and really make them squirm for whatever happens during this trial. This is the Democrats ONLY hope out of this debacle they have created.

Every time they have thought they had Trump on the ropes he has bounced back and his core support has never wavered. The Democrats still running for president are showing no life signs what so ever and there is not much confidence that they will suddenly catch fire and be able to beat Trump.

So they know they cant remove Trump, and their parties candidates won’t beat him, then they need to deliver a legislative blow to him. That is their only hope and the reason why they are pressing so hard for additional witnesses that they didn’t bring forward in the House impeachment process.

Mitch McConnell has so far outmaneuvered Pelosi in this whole debacle. Hopefully, he still has more than enough gas to pivot after this trial is done and focus on keeping the Senate side safe for the next two-year cycle.

Otherwise, the tag team of Nancy and Chuck running the Article I branch for two years will make all of us physically sick.
