'It's Either Victory or Martyrdom': FBI Thwarts ISIS-Inspired Terrorist Attack on U.S. Military Base

FBI Director Kash Patel took to X on Thursday morning to confirm that federal law enforcement officials had thwarted a planned terrorist attack on a U.S. military base in Warren, Michigan. Ammar Abdulmajid-Mohamed Said, 19, was taken into custody Tuesday and charged with "attempting to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization and distributing information related to a destructive device."

Patel shared some important details on Said's arrest and offered praise for the law enforcement officials who stopped the wannabe terrorist before he could execute his diabolical plan.

The individual, Ammar Abdulmajid-Mohamed Said, plotted a mass shooting at the U.S. Army’s Tank-Automotive & Armaments Command (TACOM) facility before multiple undercover law enforcement officers obtained information of his plans.

Said was arrested this week and will now face charges of supporting a foreign terrorist organization, among others.Our agents, intelligence teams, and partners acted quickly — and they saved lives.

Said, a native of Melvindale, Michigan, had served in the Michigan Army National Guard from September 2022 through December 2024, but was involuntarily discharged for "failing to complete the initial entry requirements."

Undercover FBI agents had been in contact with Said as he planned his attack on the U.S. Army’s Tank-Automotive & Armaments Command (TACOM) facility at the Detroit Arsenal in Warren, Michigan, and they learned he had joined the National Guard "for the training." In a chilling admission, he is alleged to have told the agents of his service: "I wanted to train so that I know what I’m doing, I know how they think, and how they act, you know. I wanted to get military training before I just go somewhere. I’m fully dedicated...”

Said was taken into custody on the same day he intended to carry out his ISIS-inspired terrorist attack; in fact, law enforcement officials moved in as he was launching a drone outside the TACOM perimeter. According to court documents, the would-be terrorist previously told undercover agents he was prepared to die for ISIS, either on U.S. soil or overseas:

"Exactly, even if I martyr, this is the goal; martyrdom is the goal, it’s either victory or martyrdom."

Brig. Gen. Rhett R. Cox, the commanding general of Army Counterintelligence Command, commented, "The arrest of this former soldier is a sobering reminder of the importance of our counterintelligence efforts to identify and disrupt those who would seek to harm our nation." Cox continued, "We urge all soldiers to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to their chain of command, as the safety and security of our Army and our nation depends on our collective efforts to prevent insider threats."

If convicted, Ammar Abdulmajid-Mohamed Said faces up to 20 years in prison; he is expected back in court on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, for a preliminary hearing.
