WATCH: The Boss Move JD Vance Made Before Al Green Was Escorted Out of Trump's Speech
There he goes again, rising to the occasion. What a joy to watch Vance assert himself in his wingman role, with what appears to be Trump's complete and total confidence. The future sure looks bright, doesn't it?
Democrats just couldn't bring themselves to act like rational human beings for one night.
If you thought that Democrats were at sea, I think they're even more at sea after the polls and analysis.

Things Not Looking Good for Mexico in Supreme Court Case
While it'll be a while before we get a final decision on this one, my hope is that Mexico isn't basing its next budget on a financial windfall from the gun industry.
The only way they could have made it worse was to ask Kamala Harris to give the SOTU rebuttal, but even they were not that stupid.
Worst Moment of the Night? Democrats Disrespect a Little Boy with Cancer
I'd have to fact check the DOGE part — though I've never heard actual facts come out of Maddow's mouth, so that may be good enough — but to look at the pure joy on that child's face tonight and call it "disgusting" takes an awfully miserable person.

WHAT'S ON TAP?
Today on Capitol Hill...
Well. That was quite the scene on Capitol Hill Tuesday night — more on President Donald Trump's joint address to Congress in just a bit. Hopefully, they had a chance to spruce the place up and pitch any stray protest signs and "ping pong paddles of doom," as my colleague Rusty Weiss has referred to them, because there's plenty of activity planned for Wednesday, including "Sanctuary Mayors Come to Washington." That's right — mayors from Chicago, Denver, New York, and Boston are set to testify before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee beginning at 10:00 a.m. Eastern. We'll definitely be following along on that one.
The Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee will also be conducting the confirmation hearing of Dr. Jayanta Bhattacharya to be Director of the National Institutes of Health, Department of Health and Human Services, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Eastern.
Other hearings set for Wednesday include:
- House Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party — End the Typhoons: How to Deter Beijing's Cyber Actions and Enhance America's Lackluster Cyber Defenses
- House Homeland Security — "Countering Threats Posed by the Chinese Communist Party to U.S. National Security”
- House Transportation and Infrastructure, Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation Subcommittee — "America Builds: Coast Guard Acquisitions and Infrastructure"
- House Science, Space, and Technology, Investigations and Oversight Subcommittee — Assessing the Threat to U.S. Funded Research
- House Energy and Commerce, Energy Subcommittee — “Scaling for Growth: Meeting the Demand for Reliable, Affordable Electricity”
- Senate Environment and Public Works — Hearings to examine the nominations of David Fotouhi, of Virginia, to be Deputy Administrator, and Aaron Szabo, of Virginia, to be an Assistant Administrator, both of the Environmental Protection Agency
- Senate Budget — Hearings to examine the nomination of James Bishop, of North Carolina, to be Deputy Director of the Office of Management and Budget
- Senate Foreign Relations — Hearings to examine advancing American interests in the Western Hemisphere
- Senate Judiciary — Hearings to examine stemming the tide of antisemitism in America
- House Energy and Commerce, Communications and Technology Subcommittee — Fixing Biden’s Broadband Blunder
White House What's Up
Hopefully, President Trump got some well-deserved rest Tuesday night after that banger of a speech (though I suspect he might have been fired up from it — and likely spent some time reviewing the post-speech polling with a grin on his face). He has no public events scheduled for Wednesday, but there will be a press briefing by Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt at 1:00 p.m. Eastern.
Keeping Up With the Cabinet
Going to have to forego the Cabinet update this AM — too much to cover in too little time. Will simply note that VA Secretary Doug Collins was the designated survivor Tuesday night — while I'm sure he appreciated the honor, I'll bet he wishes he could have been there in person for the speech.
Full Court Press...
Several of the Supreme Court Justices were in attendance at Tuesday night's address, including Chief Justice John Roberts, Justice Elena Kagan, Justice Brett Kavanaugh, and Justice Amy Coney Barrett. On Wednesday, they'll hear oral argument in the consolidated cases of NRC v. Texas and Interim Storage Partners, LLC v. Texas, involving the Nuclear Regulatory Commission's licensing authority and standing to challenge its decisions.
The court issued a decision on Tuesday dialing back the EPA's use of subjective standards to impose fines and penalties.
COMING ATTRACTIONS
We're still looking to see a CR out of Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) sometime this week. The budget battle will, no doubt, be fierce. Republicans have their work cut out for them.
Don't be at all surprised if there's a motion to censure Rep. Al Green (D-TX) following his Tuesday night cane-waving antics during the joint address.
We're also waiting to see what comes next of the Ukraine mineral rights deal, given President Volodymyr Zelensky's most recent conciliatory tack on the matter.
MORNING MUSING
Okay — the way we treat politics as a team sport here in the U.S., it's quite easy to get caught up in the emotion of it all — the impulse to boo the other team and cheer your own. I try to remind myself not to fall prey to it over much — it does tend to cloud your judgment. So, sometimes, you hear things like "We are so back," and you agree, but you also don't want to get out over your skis. I was hopeful Tuesday night's speech would go well for President Trump. I think, by all objective measures, it did. He began it by saying, "America is back," and that's pretty much what the entire speech felt like. I've seen him give good speeches — and I've seen him give okay speeches. But last night's, I'm comfortable with saying, was the best I've ever seen him give. Yes, it does, indeed, feel like America is back. And I am here for it.
