The Voices of Reason on the Left Are Few and Far Between, but They Are There

When one watches the terrifying scene that played out Saturday night at the White House Correspondents' Association Dinner (WHCD), and how Democrats and their mainstream media allies reacted to what unfolded, it's easy to become fatalistic about the future of our country.

I mean, we've seen "leaders" like Democrat House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (NY-08), for example, doubling down on using exactly the kind of incendiary rhetoric that puts targets on the backs of Republican politicians, conservative commentators, and any other like-minded individual who dares to think differently from our woke, supposed intellectual betters.

Predictably, we've also seen it with the media, where clowns like former NBC News Meet the Press host Chuck Todd insultingly tried to portray himself and the press as the real victims of the WHCD shooting, all while blaming the actual intended victim of the assassination attempt - President Trump - for the three attempts on his life in less than two years in a surreal "skirt was too short" moment.

It's easy to think everyone on the left has gone crazy, especially when you consider it's not the first time they've responded in such an unhinged, callous way to assassination attempts - including the one against Turning Point USA co-founder Charlie Kirk, which unfortunately was successful.

But amid all of this, there have been some voices of reason on the left - some pretty prominent ones, in fact, and it's something that is important to highlight as the right navigates the next steps in the battle between good and evil.

Take, for instance, former NYC Mayor Eric Adams. He's not somebody the right would typically agree with on much, but one thing he did do on the way out the door was to make life more difficult for the incoming mayor, antisemitic, pro-Hamas Democrat Socialist Zohran Mamdani, on issues related to crime and protecting the Jewish community. And he remains unapologetic in speaking out against the harm Mamdani has brought to the Big Apple since his tenure began in January.

The day after the WHCD shooting, Eric Adams stepped up again and called out his own party for the inflammatory rhetoric that has steadily and increasingly fueled violence against the right, while observing that anyone engaging in it is part of the problem and not the solution:

Last night, another act of political violence shook the nation. At this point, no one should be surprised.

“The President is a fascist.”

“Eat the rich.”

“Let the streets soak in capitalists’ blood.”

“Globalize the intifada.”

“By any means necessary.”

This isn’t fringe rhetoric anymore. It’s been normalized, echoed on campaign trails, and amplified on podcasts where politicians regularly appear.

You don’t get to indulge this language, elevate those who use it, and then act shocked when it turns into violence.

We need to get back to sanity before we lose our country.

Contrast Adams' remarks, which I'm confident come from a place of genuine sincerity and concern, with elected Democrat figures like Mamdani, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), and Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY-14) and Ilhan Omar (MN-05), all of whom have eagerly broken bread with America-hater Hasan Piker, who has openly encouraged the killing of the political opposition.

In this, we see the battle for the heart and soul of the Democrat Party, which has lurched so far left that the sane ones left are either distancing themselves, as Adams has, or are jumping ship, as we've seen here in North Carolina very recently.

In my opinion, the road to righting the ship and avoiding the looming national collision course/trainwreck that seems inevitable down the road is for the right and what remains of the sane left to form an unusual alliance where two sides that normally don't agree that much band together to save it in the court of public opinion.

It won't be easy, because so much has happened that has tainted the process and caused people to lose faith. And every day, there will be extremist voices (and actions) that conspire against doing what's right to defend our great nation in the public debate arena. But we must persist and not give up hope to preserve the greatest country on earth for future generations.
