After the White House Correspondents' Dinner shooting, you suddenly had Democrats talking about how it was important now that there should be "unity." This, after ten years of targeting and demonizing President Donald Trump.
Why were they doing that? Because they didn't want to seriously address the dangerous rhetoric they have on the left that is influencing bad acts like this.

Democrat House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (NY-14) posted a perfect example of their rhetoric problem and the refusal to properly deal with it.
America will not be lectured about civility by far right extremists in Congress.

Now is a time to unify.
The cognitive dissonance in that tweet is crazy. He says "now is the time to unify" — even as he's attacking Republicans as "far right extremists in Congress" and accuses them of "giving aid and comfort" to people who beat police officers on Jan. 6. That's the very demonizing problem we're talking about, and how are you "unifying" when you do that?
Of course, to be fair, he doesn't say "unify with Republicans" or with Americans in general. And talking about Jan. 6 ad nauseam is a "whataboutism." That deflection doesn't change all the violence that we've seen from their side for years. It's not equatable, particularly not with multiple assassination efforts against the president. Refusing to be lectured also indicates that they're really not addressing the problem.
Then, too, this was the guy who just last week was calling for "maximum warfare, everywhere, all the time" against Trump and the Republicans.

Fellow member of Congress, Republican Rep. Kat Cammack (FL-3), reminded him of this.
How does one “unify” if you are promising “maximum warfare… everywhere…all the time.” Asking for a friend. 🤔 https://t.co/aQG2HRgkJJ pic.twitter.com/RlgG0cXpwY

Jeffries' comment about "unity" doesn't exactly sound sincere.
"Time to unify, so STFU you far right extremists who continue to be targeted for violent attacks by lunatics inspired by me and my party!

Did I mention it's time to unify?" https://t.co/2TXOkNDIeP
I don't think Jeffries even understands the concept.
