New: Fetterman Responds to NY Mag Hit Piece As Another Reporter Casts More Doubt on Story's Validity

RedState wrote Friday about a new "report" from New York Magazine on purported concerns raised by former and current staffers of Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) about his health, whether he was following the healthcare regimen recommended by his doctors after his May 2022 stroke and after his self-admission into Walter Reed Medical Center for clinical depression in February 2023.

The article, which was mostly anonymously sourced outside of Fetterman's former chief of staff, Adam Jentleson, alleged that at times his staff did not recognize the senator and that he would sometimes be seen “acting bizarrely" well after his late winter/early spring 2023 hospital stay.

It was also alleged that Fetterman's supposedly erratic behavior and his staunch support for Israel after the October 7, 2023 Hamas terrorist attacks against Israeli civilians caused ripples in his marriage to his wife, Gisele, with staffers recalling alleged conversations the two would have and also claiming she'd call them up directly to ask how to appropriately distance herself from some of her husband's stances.

While Mrs. Fetterman's response to the story is perhaps best explored in a separate piece (she didn't deny the disagreements but says Fetterman's doctors would routinely counter claims made by Jentleson when she'd ask them about it), Sen. Fetterman himself is now responding by saying it was a thinly sourced hit piece that should be doubted on that basis.

Incredibly, this NBC News reporterette thought it was appropriate to ask Fetterman if he was still taking his medications. He didn't answer the question:

Even more interestingly was the reaction of Pennsylvania-based journalist/author Salena Zito, a well-respected media figure in the Keystone State who has recently talked to John Fetterman and who shared her doubts on the Twitter/X machine about the story's validity:

At the risk of repeating myself, which I’m going to do repeatedly, this is a DC story. This is not a Pennsylvania story no matter how many times it makes the circuits. No one was more critical than me over transparency in 2022– when he emerged from Walter Reed in 2023 he emerged as the man [I've] covered for 20 years the only time he wasn’t himself was in those months of recovery. Hehas never ever ever been the Darling of the far left of his party or the establishment of his party. People tend to forget that he primaried a sitting Democrat lieutenant governor, and won that doesn’t [endear] you to the establishment. I just spent hours with him in both February and two weeks ago. My only conclusion to come to is that someone is looking for redemption for having worked for him because he wasn’t left enough and they are trying to destroy him.

Something referenced in the NY Mag piece but which should be getting more attention, in my opinion, is that Jentleson is an alum of the late Democrat Sen. Harry Reid's office, having worked at various points as the longtime Nevada senator's comms director and deputy chief of staff.

Harry Reid was, without a doubt, one of the dirtiest players in the game, something confirmed after he admitted the lies he made up about 2012 GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney allegedly not paying taxes for decades.

"Romney didn't win, did he?" he told CNN's Dana Bash about the issue in 2015 after his retirement announcement. In 2016, he said in another interview on his Romney lies that "like everything, I think in life, here’s something I learned from my father, if you’re going to do something, don’t do it half-a****d, don’t play around."

I think it's safe to say that Jentleson learned quite a bit from his boss on that front, as evidenced by "concerns" he's fanning the flames over well after he resigned from Fetterman's office nearly a year ago. That, too, should be kept in mind as people consider whether or not to believe what current and former staffers are alleging about Fetterman.
