Squad Member Jamaal Bowman Feels the Heat

Because Democratic voters in New York City aren't particularly discerning when it comes to who they elect to represent them, Congress gets stuck with (potential) lifetimers like Rep. Jamaal Bowman, politicos who - as former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi once noted - were in heavily Democratic districts where a "glass of water" could win if it had a "D" beside it.

Since he's been there, though, having been elected in 2020 after upsetting longtime Democratic Rep. Eliot Engel in the primary, Bowman has caused nothing but trouble for himself and his party - and not the "good" kind of trouble Democrats often brag about making.

There have been the incidents where he has invaded the personal space of Republican members of Congress and started shouting matches in the process, the ethics complaints, the idiotic clout-chasing, and of course the infamous Sept. 2023 fire alarm incident just to name a few.

Though Bowman was censured by the House and was fined $1,000 over the fire alarm stunt, he avoided a formal House Ethics Committee investigation, DOJ charges, expulsion, and jail time, further proving the point made by his critics that the two-tiered system of justice is alive and well on Capitol Hill.

But though the types of aforementioned transgressions oftentimes result in little more than yawns from the Democratic faithful, there is one line that for many of them should not be crossed, and that's the one that involves going from giving lip service to supporting Israel to essentially being a mouthpiece for the terrorists who want to wipe Israel off the map.

Bowman has tried his best since the October 7th Hamas terrorist attacks to straddle that line, but like his fellow Squad members including Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Ayanna Pressley, Bowman just can't help himself, with the blunders he's made on Israel and other issues so numerous that even left-leaning mainstream media outlets can't ignore them:

Westchester County Executive George Latimer [his primary opponent] has raised more than twice his haul.

[...]

He’s also recently criticized Latimer for taking money from a group of donors from which Bowman himself received campaign cash.

But now he’s angered firefighters all over again, this time as he deals with the aftermath of an uncomfortable revelation from his past.

In a 2011 online personal blog, penned during his time as a Bronx principal, Bowman posted a lengthy poem in which he suggested the 9/11 attacks were a conspiracy.

The comments have infuriated first responders, and multiple law enforcement groups who spoke with Playbook said the writings have all but disqualified him from their endorsement.

[...]

There’s another issue for Bowman. In fundraising emails, he and his allies have repeatedly slammed AIPAC for supporting “insurrectionist Republicans.”

Yet in the last two years, he accepted almost $40,000 from 20 PACs that collectively gave more than $700,000 last quarter to Republicans who voted to not certify the 2020 election or supported efforts to overturn it, according to a Playbook analysis of FEC data.

Bowman has also further angered Jewish voters in his district by once again standing shoulder to shoulder with antisemitic Rep. Rashida Tlaib, forming a joint fundraising committee alongside her:

Records filed with the Federal Elections Committee show that Bowman-Tlaib Committee was formed on Feb. 14 to aid Bowman in his Democratic primary race against moderate Westchester County Executive George Latimer.

“Nothing Bowman does at this point surprises given his record of being anti-Israel,” said Rabbi Joseph Potasnik, executive vice chairman of the New York Board of Rabbis.

[...]

Latimer also pounced on the Bowman-Tlaib joint fundraising campaign.

[...]

“The incumbent, with his weak in-district numbers, has now resorted to working hand in hand with Rep. Tlaib, who refuses to condemn the rape of Israeli women and is actively working to defeat President Biden in her home state of Michigan. That says it all.”

As nice as it would be for Republicans to have a legit shot at winning Bowman's district, realistically speaking it's just not going to happen. In light of that, the most we can hope for is someone on the Democrat side who isn't a proud Democratic Socialist and who at the very least understands the importance of Israel not falling to Hamas terrorists.

Bowman, I should note, is not the only anti-Israel Squad member facing a primary challenge this year. Reps. Cori Bush, Ilhan Omar, and Summer Lee are all facing strong contenders who are making the Israel-Hamas war - and the Squad's unified position against Israel - focal points of their respective campaigns.

As always, stay tuned.
