Yesterday, the public impeachment inquiry hearings conducted by the Schiff-led House Intelligence Committee concluded, and as my colleague Bonchie noted, none of the “star” witnesses really added much of anything to the debate outside of U.S. Ambassador to the EU Gordon Sondland, which isn’t saying much considering his ever-changing recollection of events and conversations.
While much of the national media and their friends in the Democratic party salivated over the testimony of Dr. Fiona Hill Thursday, Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) strategically took his five minutes of time to note that much of what Hill said actually backed up Republican arguments about how the “get Trump” effort has been a coordinated attempt at undermining both the election process and the office of the presidency itself going back to 2016:
Rep. Jim Jordan, Ohio Republican, took witness Fiona Hill through a chronology, from opposition research firm Fusion GPS to dossier author Christopher Steele to the FBI, which put President Trump under investigation. The operation was funded by the Democratic National Committee and the Hillary Clinton presidential campaign.
“The DNC hired [a law firm] who hired Fusion GPS who hired Christopher Steele who talk to Russians who gave him a bunch of dirt, a bunch of National Enquirer garbage, that he compiled in a dossier and our FBI used it,” Mr. Jordan said. “They used it as part of their investigation that they opened in July 2016 where they spied on to American citizens associated with the presidential campaign. My guess is that has probably never happened in American history.”
Jordan talked for over 4 minutes, and after having Hill confirm statements she’s made, he made a larger point about how sad it was that Democrats have put the American people through 3 years of this process all because they didn’t want Trump elected, and didn’t like the outcome of the election.
Watch:
What’s next up in the Impeachmentpalooza charade? The House Intel, Oversight, and Foreign Affairs Committee have to confer on an Intelligence Committee report detailing their findings and turn it over to the House Judiciary Committee, led by Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY). In addition, the report has to be released to the public.
After that, Judiciary has the option to conduct more hearings if they think they should, and from there articles of impeachment are drafted if they determine they have enough evidence.
Stay tuned.
