Democrats in Disarray: Angie Nixon and Nikki Fried in Reported Yelling Match Over FL Senate Race

Florida state Rep. Angie Nixon had a surprising win over Alexander Vindman in the Democrat primary for Senate on Tuesday.

But as we've noted, she's in an uphill battle as a member of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) against incumbent Sen. Ashley Moody (R-FL) in a red state that has a lot of people who are not fans of socialism. The data doesn't look good for her, or for Democrats in the state in general, as the state has become progressively more red.

According to a new report from Axios, it sounds like the Democrats realize the fix they have put themselves in by nominating Nixon. There was reportedly a yelling match during a heated discussion between the chair of the Democrat Party in the state, Nikki Fried, and Nixon.

Nixon was allegedly upset she hadn't received sufficient help from the state party. In reply, Fried was concerned about Nixon's ties to the DSA being an attack point for the GOP.

According to two people who spoke with Nixon, both she and Fried yelled at each other over the course of the call. Another person who spoke to Fried said the chair did not yell but was yelled at.

  • "Nikki wants her to back away from DSA, from socialism," said one person who spoke with Nixon. "She's listening to other people saying that they're afraid, they're scared — the Jewish members and the Hispanic caucus. But to Angie, Nikki doesn't want Angie to be who Angie is. Angie has already done the backing-away."
  • On the call, Nixon told Fried, "You never gave a care about me from the beginning, and now you're telling me how to run my campaign?" according to the source.
  • At one point, the source said, Nixon yelled, "stop gaslighting me!"

It sounded like they were not fans of each other.

A second person who talked to Nixon described the feud as "a clash of ideology — but it's also a clash of personalities."

  • "Nikki needs to be careful," the person added. "She can't afford to be seen by black voters disrespecting a black woman."

According to another Florida official, Fried was not happy Nixon won.

On top of that, people are leaking to Axios about what went down. Talk about more disarray.

Now, of course, Fried is right to be fearful of that DSA connection. That's going to hurt big time. Nixon is now trying to claim she's not a socialist.

While Nixon said she joined the organization for grassroots organizing help during the primary, she also says she supports some of their positions and tried to distance herself from the more extreme positions like abolishing the Senate and open borders.

She told "Meet the Press NOW" host Kristen Welker on Thursday:

"Ashley Moody knows that I’m not a socialist," Nixon said. "I joined the DSA because I believe in them in regards to fighting for adequate public housing, as well as fighting for quality healthcare, as well as making sure that we are getting our veterans off the street, taking big money out of politics, right?"

You don't have to join the DSA to support those things.

Plus, this effort to distance oneself from the DSA while in an election isn't one that goes over well with people anyway; they tend not to believe it when people do stuff like that.

People were enjoying the show, including Ashley Moody.
