AOC Decimated by Economist in Munich, Exposing the Folly of Dem Positions As They Jockey for 2028

We have a good bench of talented people on the Republican side for 2028.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio's great speech in Munich prompted people over the weekend to talk more about his potential for the future. The speech was not only intelligent, but it was about the basic fight to preserve Western civilization that we face.

Meanwhile, the Democrats are at the Munich Security Conference in Germany, attacking American policy overseas, violating one of those basic rules we used to have about attacking the country while on foreign soil. But rules are only for other people, not for Democrats, in their minds.

I wrote about how former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton had a fit when she got dunked on for her Trump Derangement Syndrome by Czech deputy foreign minister Petr Macinka, who came to the defense of Trump, pointing out how extreme the Left has become.

Why is Hillary there? Does she think she still has any political future?

Then there were the current politicians with pretensions for the future, like Democrat Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY-14).

Why she was sitting on a panel to discuss foreign policy is anyone's guess. I'm assuming she's trying to burnish up her foreign policy chops by being there. But as we reported, she served up a word salad answer when asked about foreign policy regarding Taiwan. Then Gretchen Whitmer, another name bandied about for future office, responded to a question saying AOC knew more about foreign policy than her. Not a good look.

But that wasn't all. AOC attacked Rubio over his speech, calling it a "pure appeal to Western culture." Yes, and so? It was about how much that has been worth and what we've brought to the world with those beliefs, which she didn't seem to grasp.

She also attacked what Rubio said about the origin of cowboys tracing back to Spain, "Mexicans and the descendants of African slave peoples would like to have a word."

Except that, as everyone who isn't AOC knows, the origins do trace back to Spain, which introduced the horse and that culture to Mexico and the United States.

She also called the "Trans-Atlantic Partnership" the “Trans-Pacific Partnership,” later correcting herself on social media.

There was also this sterling moment when, in addition to attacking our action in Venezuela and calling it a "kidnapping," she claimed it was only about Venezuela being "below the equator."

Not only is that nonsense, but Venezuela is above the Equator. And this is one of the Democrats' prospects?

The greater problem is that she doesn't seem to understand why we were there or the issues involved.

She was too concentrated on pushing radical positions, like a wealth tax. We've seen this being considered by leftists in California and other places as well. She was asked by a moderator if she would impose such a tax "when you run for president." But she was decimated by someone who knew better.

AOC giggled. “I think that we don’t have to wait for any one president to impose a wealth tax,” she said. “I think that it needs to be done expeditiously.”

An economist and member of the Argentinian legislature, Daiana Fernández Molero, explained the folly of this position, how ultimately it ends up being a "tragedy for the future." She knows, she said, because she saw it happen in her own country. "The wealth goes away, and you have just the tax, and you don't have wealth anymore." Molero said it became a cycle of more poverty.

But they're propped up by liberal media. My colleague Brad Slager wrote earlier about how Bloomberg tried to save AOC's Munich mess.

But the problem with the Democrats is not only that their potential candidates like Kamala Harris and AOC have big issues, but the radical policies they embrace have failed, time and again. Yet they're still pushing them. That's the thing that the GOP has to drive home in 2026 and in 2028. Run what Molero said on a loop and combine with the taxes that Democrats are trying to impose in Virginia after Democrat Abigail Spanberger won the governor's race.

It doesn't matter what they say; it matters what they do, and the history is bad.
