About That Reported 'No ICE Zone' in Minneapolis and What the City Has to Say

I reported on Saturday how the anti-ICE people were putting trash cans and dumpsters to block the street near the site of the Border Patrol shooting of Alex Pretti.

Police deployed tear gas on Saturday to deal with the agitators, and they admitted they weren't able to secure the shooting scene. They did, however, have the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension special agents out at the scene on Sunday.

The anti-ICE crew continued to build on the walls on Saturday. They reportedly had several blocks barricaded off.

Warning for graphic language in the following videos:

Weren't these the guys on the side of "we don't believe in walls"? Yet, there you go.

They were even bringing in wood and having fire pits for warmth.

The City of Minneapolis said:

Minnesota Guard personnel will be available to help local police and emergency personnel protect community safety around the area near 26th Street and Nicollet Ave., the location of a fatal shooting of a Minneapolis resident by federal agents Saturday morning – and at other posts as needed.

Minnesota Guard members will wear neon reflective vests to help distinguish them from other agencies in similar uniforms and will always remain in close contact and proximity to Minneapolis Police officers whom they are supporting.

Translation? Don't attack our guys even if you think they might look like federal agents.

The statement told people that for their safety, they should leave, and that any material for barricades or fires would be removed.

The police and the National Guard were there on the perimeter, but didn't appear to be doing anything to stop the action at that point.

The City said in their statement that they were maintaining a temporary perimeter around the shooting site and that vehicles would not be allowed through except for residents.

There was also the National Guard and more apparent protection for the Whipple federal building.

Looks like they finally fenced these characters off. Now that's very satisfying. So maybe that will limit their ability to interfere with operations.

That reference to biting people's fingers off was a reference to a reported attack on a federal agent in the wake of the Border Patrol shooting on Saturday.

The agent had part of his finger bitten off, allegedly by a different person agitating against ICE..

The city finally announced this morning that they'd cleared the "debris" from the roads and that the roads were now clear. They also lifted the vehicle perimeter they had had in force around the shooting area, and said the National Guard was no longer deployed there.

They said there would be vehicles out to clean up the graffiti (nice way to acknowledge the damage), while still claiming people were "peaceful." "Note that these teams will be driving clearly marked City vehicles," the statement said. Again, please don't harass our vehicles. And I don't think biting off a finger of an agent or throwing things at agents, which also happened on Saturday, is very "peaceful."
