New: Portland Police Step Up Action Against Anti-ICE Protesters

On Saturday, the Portland Police Bureau finally took some long-needed action on the anti-ICE encampment around the Portland ICE facility. They surrounded the supply tent, told the activists that they could not block the sidewalks, and made them move their stuff.  The police also said they would be enforcing local ordinances for things like blocking traffic.

It was a great move, and it absolutely infuriated them that they had to move their stuff that they had spread out all over the sidewalk. They still had stuff remaining on Sunday, and as Frontlines TPUSA reported, they still had some guys dressing up in the ridiculous inflatable costumes on Sunday afternoon.

But that wasn't the end of it. I reported, "More may be coming." Indeed, it was.

The Portland Police Bureau hit the site again, along with state troopers and a clean-up crew, on Sunday. According to journalist Nick Sortor, they came in, blocked off the streets, and got what was remaining. It was some sight to behold.

Warning for graphic language:

They had trucks, and the clean-up crew was bagging stuff up and throwing it onto the trucks. Expect meltdowns from the anti-ICE crew over that. You can hear one guy yelling. You could see the response team was even sweeping up the streets afterward. What a welcome change.

According to one report, a police officer said that people who had been "camping" had been "incredibly disrespectful to the space and its residents," and that they, the police, were "tired of it." The officer warned against camping again.

The action cleaned up a lot of things. But later in the evening, some of the anti-ICE crew still came out, as did police.

Some of the conservatives who had been covering the action wondered if these new actions by the police were an effort to influence the court that there wasn't a need for the National Guard to be deployed in the area. Maybe. The fact that the police did this now shows they could have done it before.

That said, it was still good that they were finally taking some substantial action, especially for the residents. The area is cleaner, and you can walk down the sidewalk. So let's see if the PPB continues with following through on their warnings to the anti-ICE characters.
