Watch: Sec. Bessent Squashes Liberal Media for Narrative About Trump on Shutdown

The Schumer Shutdown has entered its 27th day.

It's unclear when it will end, as the Democrats continue to vote against opening the government.

Even some of the media have busted them on who is to blame for the shutdown. CNBC Squawk Box host Becky Quick put Hakeem Jeffries on the spot with facts about their Obamacare subsidies excuse, and ABC's Jon Karl properly placed the blame where it belonged — on the Democrats.

Liberal Media Just Made a Big Admission About the Schumer Shutdown - Dems Aren't Going to Like This

However, it sounded like the word had gone out when Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent hit the Sunday shows. He was asked a similar question by both NBC's Kristen Welker and ABC's Martha Raddatz about President Donald Trump meeting with Democrats to stop the shutdown, seeming to put the onus on him.

But Bessent wasn't having any of it.

Bessent explained it was about Democrats simply voting to open the government in the Senate, not Trump. But that Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) didn't want to do that because he was afraid of the left and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY-14) taking a run at his seat.

“I reject the premise — why does President Trump have to meet with Democrats? Democrats just need to go into the Senate and vote to end the shutdown." He said there was nothing different from March when Schumer voted in favor of passing the clean continuing resolution. The only thing that changed is the polling and his fear of being abandoned by the leftist base for AOC. "The whole country’s being held hostage to AOC’s polls," he said.

He laid out the basic facts on the vote: You need 60 to open the government. He urged moderate Democrats to cross the aisle and vote with Republicans.

Trump did meet with Democrats, yet they still are keeping the government shutdown.

Raddatz asked if Trump should meet with them again. Bessent explained again how the vote was in the Democrats' corner and asked "moderates" to switch, saying they would be "heroes." He scolded the Democrats, saying they'd managed to cover things so far, but that for the military not to be paid was a "disgrace." He said it was starting to eat into the economy and cause a problem with air traffic control.

That's when Raddatz went into full Democratic defense mode, claiming his party "controls the White House and both chambers of Congress. You don't think you bear responsibility for any of this?"

Bessent rejected that again, asking what they could do, because it was the Democrats' "desperate act." He said all the spending they want is not on the table, and they were not "going to let them get irresponsible on the budget again."

The Democrats want to re-argue votes they already lost and try to get what they want by holding the government, the military, and the other federal employees hostage.

Republicans can't invent the 60 votes that are needed; they're voting for it. It's the Democrats who need to vote for the CR to open the government. Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) has even offered them a vote on Obamacare subsidies after they vote to open the government, but they've still refused.

Media can't change those facts because they want to throw out cover for the Democrats, and Bessent wasn't going to let them get away with it.

Editor’s Note: The Schumer Shutdown is here. Rather than put the American people first, Chuck Schumer and the radical Democrats forced a government shutdown for healthcare for illegals. They own this.
