As we reported, E. Jean Carroll was awarded more than $83 million as part of a defamation lawsuit by a New York jury on Friday. Victor Davis Hanson ripped the decision as an "embarrassing face" and former President Donald Trump vowed to appeal, saying there is "no longer justice in America."

As our sister site Townhall noted, when Carroll was interviewed by ABC's George Stephanopoulos on "Good Morning America," she said that she was going to use the money on "something Donald Trump hates." She then suggested she would create a "fund for the women who have been sexually assaulted by Donald Trump."

But then when she was interviewed by Rachel Maddow and Maddow asked about how she might "shore up women's rights" with that money, she had this reaction.  Maddow teed it up for her. But I don't think it quite went as Rachel hoped. "Yes, Rachel!. Yes!" Carroll exclaimed.

"I have such, such great ideas for all the good I'm going to do with this money," she declared to Maddow. "First thing, you and I are going to go shopping. We're going to get completely new wardrobes, new shoes." She said she'd get a motorcycle for her lawyer on her left and a new fishing rod for the woman on her right. "It's yours, Rachel! Penthouse in France, you want a penthouse in France, you want to go fishing in France?"  Her lawyer hurriedly interjected saying it was a joke.

That reaction was not received well by many and some thought it might redound to the benefit of former President Donald Trump when you see such comments and laughter.

Megyn Kelly thought it might hand Trump the election.

Maybe. We've seen how every attack seems to have driven his numbers up higher and the remarks on Maddow are certainly going to raise some eyebrows in people.

Attorney Leo Terrell had a different take, seeing a possible reversal on appeal.

I think it is quite possible if not reversed, the award will be reduced.

Some thought Carroll shouldn't be counting her chickens, and many thought that she might never see any of the money. Some questioned the laughter, given the alleged claims Carroll made. Some who said they were rape survivors were not amused.

But no doubt that the best response from Trump, in addition to appealing, would be to win, if he becomes the nominee, as looks likely.
