[WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.] A drag queen and chef was arrested and booked Friday, five days after he made online threats against President Donald J. Trump, whose Winter White House Mar-a-Lago is here, including the man’s request: “Bullets, please. Jesus, save America” at 9:59 p.m. on his Facebook page.

West Palm Beach Police Chief Tony Araujo told reporters Saturday that Shannon Atkins was arrested after additional posts bemoaning that after attacks on presidents Abraham Lincoln, John F. Kennedy, Ronald W. Reagan, and civil rights leader Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. — and Trump — “Unfortunately, one is still alive.”

Atkins identifies himself as: “Certified Chef, Baker and now Drag Queen” on his X profile.

The owner of Big Mama’s Big House of Sweets, who performs as a drag queen and comic and promotes drag shows locally, appears to be more than six feet tall and weighs more than 300 pounds.

Atkins’s X account, @atkinsbigchef23, is now private, but he bragged on Facebook that although this X account had been taken down for violating community standards, it was now back up.

Araujo said the tip came into the FBI National Threat Operation Center on Jan. 19.

The sheriff told reporters Atkins was pulled over in his 2013 white BMW close to one of his two homes.

After quoting Atkins, who also performs as a comic, telling officers that his posts were a joke, the lawman told the reporters: “Folks, this is not a joke.”

Trump, who is wrapping up his first trip upon returning to the White House Monday, where he visited survivors of the devastation wrought by hurricanes Helene and Milton in western North Carolina, the wildfires in southern California and spoke at a rally with supporters in Las Vegas, has not yet commented on Atkins’ arrest.

The president survived a shooting July 13 in Butler, Pennsylvania, by Thomas Matthews Crooks and a thwarted attempt Sept. 15, when Secret Service agents discovered gunman Ryan Wesley Routh lying in wait for Trump at his Trump International Golf Club here.

Trump nominated Sean Curran, who was part of his personal security detail during the 2024 campaign, as the new Secret Service director.

A source familiar with the booking told RedState that although the FBI and the Secret Service worked with the West Palm Beach Police Department, Atkins is subject to state charges, not federal charges, yet.

On his Facebook page, Atkins posted in support of gay and transgender privileges, as well as promotions for his drag shows, his baked goods business, and his culinary career.

In 2017, Atkins appeared on local WPTV, an NBC affiliate owned by E.W. Scripps, for a segment wearing his chef whites.

Atkins was booked on three charges: intimidation, written or electronic, to kill or bodily harm an individual; possession of a controlled substance without a prescription; and smuggling contraband into a county detention center.

Depending upon the degree to which Atkins acted upon his threats, it could be that his drug charges will give him the most difficulty.

He is held in the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s main detention area and has been denied the opportunity for bail.
