Gavin Newsom Faces New Recall Threat

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) is on the verge of facing another recall.

With homelessness worsening, crime out-of-control, drugs on the street, the border crisis moving to San Diego as Gov. Greg Abbott (R-TX) seals the Texas border, and the state potentially facing a record deficit of $73 billion after having a record surplus of $97 billion less than two years ago, Californians seem fed up, again.

In 2021, Californians attempted to recall Newsom; the yes vote received around 40 percent, and the no vote received around 60 percent.

Now, a citizen-led group formally served Newsom's office with recall papers Monday morning.

Anne Dunsmore, an Orange County fundraiser and campaign director for Rescue California, said:

Gavin Newsom has abandoned the state to advance his presidential ambitions, leaving behind a $73 billion budget deficit and a public safety, immigration and education crisis. California needs a full-time governor who is fully focused on the serious problems the state and its citizens are facing. This may be our last opportunity to rescue and restore our state, while we highlight for the rest of the country the destruction Newsom has left in his wake.

Per Politico, Dunsmore said:

More than 400 Californians of varying political persuasion have joined together to serve as official proponents of the new recall. That includes others from the last effort such as Orrin Heatlie, the retired county sheriff’s sergeant from Yolo who helped get the ball rolling in 2020.

This seems like another recall movement that includes Democrats, Republicans, and Independents. That's why Newsom and his team don't seem to be taking the recall effort lightly; however, they are calling it a recall effort by "Trump Republicans."

Nathan Click, a spokesman for Newsom, said:

We are taking it seriously. These Trump Republicans are targeting Gov. Newsom because he is out there defending democracy and fighting for the reelection of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. He’s not going to be distracted from that fight. Democracy’s on the ballot, and he’s going to keep fighting.

Notice how he didn't mention Newsom's accomplishments as governor but instead brought up Trump and Democracy. I wonder why they never mention what Newsom has done that has led to a positive impact for Californians.

This is not a Republican recall, as Dunsmore stated. That's why Newsom and his team are taking it seriously.

On X, Attorney General Rob Bonta posted about the recall instead of focusing on rising crime in his state:

Lieutenant Governor Eleni Kounalakis made a post about not allowing the "dark forces of Donald Trump" to succeed:

And the list goes on, but you get the idea. They are trying to make this recall about Trump — the same way they did in 2021.

Newsom's staunchest supporters avoid mentioning any of his purported achievements, opting instead to focus on making the argument against recalling Newsom by making it about Trump rather than addressing the direction California is heading.
