“We have been made aware that Brian Robinson Jr. was the victim of an attempted armed robbery or carjacking in Washington, D.C. He sustained non-life threatening injuries and is currently being treated at the hospital, where Team officials are on-site with him. We ask that you please respect Brian’s privacy at this time.”

The D.C. Police Department sent out a tweet, informing the public of the situation:

“Alert: Shooting Investigation in the 1000 block of H Street NE. Lookout for two black juvenile males with shoulder length dreads, medium complexion, wearing a black or brown shirt with yellow smiley faces on it.”

According to Ian Rapoport, Robinson was shot in the glute and lower leg.

Robinson was named the Commanders’ starting running back about one hour before this attempted robbery and shooting took place. Robinson came into the league as a third-string running back, worked hard during the off-season, proved himself during training camp, outshined the first-string running back, and showed out during the preseason games. He earned the first-string role, but due to these two juveniles, all his work might have been for nothing, at least this season, if he ends up missing all or most of it.

Crime affects everyone. The important thing is that he is in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries. The fact is, however, that these thugs are the reason Robinson’s season is in jeopardy. Juveniles should not be out on the streets with guns, and they should not be able to escape. If they do, there should be much harsher sentencing. Right now, criminal justice is almost non-existent in cities with soft-on-crime District Attorneys. If it can happen to him, it can happen to any one of us, and the solution is to lock criminals up until they finish serving their sentence.

Washington drafted Robinson in the third round out of Alabama. They open up their season at home against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

According to head coach Ron Rivera, Robinson is in good spirits.

On Monday morning, Rivera said Robinson was in “good spirits” and could be released from the hospital as early as today.

Robinson posted on social media after the surgery: “Surgery went well! Thanks for the prayers! God is Great!”

This is a developing story.
