America stands on the precipice. We are on the verge of losing a free country, only to have it be replaced with socialism.
There is a major political party that has been hijacked by the socialists to pursue this radical agenda: the Democrat Party.
Democrats have successfully inculcated socialist views into the mainstream of the party's political base.
According to a new CBS poll that understates the danger the country is in, the majority of Democrats now favor socialism.

An alarming 58 percent of Democrats view socialism favorably, while only 32 percent viewed capitalism favorably.
No wonder 202 House Democrats refused to sign a centrist pledge upholding support for capitalism.
Younger Democrats and White Democrats were also more likely to view socialism favorably.
Unlike the public overall, Democrats are mostly positive on socialism and have a more favorable impression of it than of capitalism.
Socialism finds more positive views among Democrats with college degrees than those without. They're even more likely to perceive a gap between the richest and the middle class. And less likely to say the Democratic Party is "effective."
Younger Democrats more than older ones, and White Democrats more than other racial groups tend to have more favorable views of socialism.
In particular, Democrats feel socialism would make their own finances better and that on balance, capitalism makes them worse.
When it comes to that slippery term "democratic socialism," most of the support is coming from college-educated Democrats.

“They want this to be a referendum on the Trump economy, but Democrats say they'd like to have bigger ideas from their candidates than smaller or incremental ones,” CBS News’ Executive Director of Elections and Surveys Anthony Salvanto reports.
Interestingly, CBS News polling found that "83% of Democrats would rather 'see people who they think are fighting for them' than have detailed policies."

Public education is really at the root of all of this. Democrats have controlled our "education" system for decades. They have removed warnings about socialist failures and have replaced them with sermons about the evils of "capitalist imperialism" and identity politics that weaponize historical grievances.
CBS News also pointed out that the left is capitalizing on dinner-table messaging meant to exploit the economic headwinds still being felt after the disastrous Biden administration.

Pew Research's polling tracks with this view that the American Dream of hard work and talent leading to personal reward is becoming obsolete; this is largely due to the structural disincentives to hard work in the economy and the rewards for many who take advantage of the "rigged" system.

If you wanted to destroy a free market economy, you would do everything that socialist Democrats and corporatist Republicans have done for over a generation.
As Ronald Reagan said about preserving a free nation:
"We didn’t pass it on to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same, or one day we will spend our sunset years telling our children and our children’s children what it was once like in the United States where men were free.”
America has implemented socialist policies for over a hundred years under the rubric of "progressivism," so discussion of democratic socialism as being a "new thing" is deceptive. The progressive income tax and central banking are key planks straight out of the Communist Manifesto's platform.
Thus, when socialist New York City mayor Zohran Mamdani says that we now know what democratic socialism is because of his regime, he is being disingenuous.

“We don't have to ask ourselves what life looks like if a socialist wins," he said. "I won last November, and over the course of these last six months, what we've delivered for working people are the very things we were told were impossible.”
“That's what it looks like to have Democratic socialism," he continued. "And what you're seeing is that New Yorkers experienced this for six months and made the decision that they wanted to see more of it on the national stage as well.”
Failure is success when it comes to democratic socialism. That is because removing the barriers to socialist control is key. This means taking over institutions and corrupting them with clientelist practices that promote fellow-travelers and penalize ideological opponents or disfavored racial, ethnic, and religious groups. That is the real meaning behind Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion policies.
Mamdani is also talking about democratic socialism as if it means a process of change resulting in something new, when it actually means a worsening of the bad trends already in place.
The Democrat Party has been run by socialists for decades who have used the term "democracy" as a shield for its actual objectives. Their cover is blown now, and they are finally embracing the term "socialism," but people who have lived in one-party blue states are not as easily fooled by rhetoric that tries to reframe their failed policies as "new" ones.
The New York Post recently covered how unfavorable the Democratic Socialists of America are in New York.
"Only 30% of likely Empire State voters told Siena University they take a favorable view of the DSA, while 47% view them unfavorably and another 23% were unsure," the Post notes.
DSA support only gets weaker when you get outside of the New York City metro area, finding that "only 16% of suburban voters and 27% of upstate voters" support the revolutionary faction.
It is hard to miss that the urban centers of America are the areas generating the most support for the DSA. And it is unmistakable that the leading spokespersons are proud of their foreign heritage: Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib, Abdul El-Sayed, and of course, Zohran Mamdani.
Kevin Roberts, the Heritage Foundation president, makes a shrewd point. In order for the nation to recover the American Dream, it needs to stop handing it out to foreigners.

Here is what he said: "Want to draw young Americans away from the false promises of socialism? Then turn off the spigot of foreign, cheap labor undermining their job prospects. And I can’t help but notice that none of these are those 'pesky' agricultural jobs the elites keep telling us Americans won’t do."
He reacted to an economic report about skilled jobs being handed out to foreign-born workers that noted, in "FY2026 Q3, employers received certification for 830,710 foreign-worker positions under the H-1B/H-1B1/E-3 LCA program."
This really gets to the crux of the matter. America is undergoing a different kind of demographic transformation than it did in generations past. Instead of millions of European immigrants coming to America to work hard and earn their own way through life, there are now millions of migrants coming from paternalistic, collectivist, and tribalistic societies ranging from the Middle East to Africa to China.
We can thank the Hart-Celler Act of 1965 for that. As the Center for Immigration Studies pointed out, the "1965 immigration law quickly transformed the ethnic portrait of the United States."
The 1924 law established a quota system based on national origins. It directed nearly 70 percent of the immigration slots to northern Europeans, cutting back drastically on immigration from southern and eastern Europe. It maintained formidable barriers against immigration from Asia and Africa, while leaving immigration from the Western Hemisphere unrestricted — a gesture of hemispheric solidarity that also served the cheap-labor interests of American employers.
The 1965 legislation was named the Hart-Celler Act for its principal sponsors in the Senate and House of Representatives. It abolished the quota system, which critics condemned as a racist contradiction of fundamental American values. By liberalizing the rules for immigration, especially by prioritizing family reunification, it also stimulated rapid growth of immigration numbers. Once immigrants had naturalized, they were able to sponsor relatives in their native lands in an ever-lengthening migratory process called chain migration. That unintended consequence is Hart-Celler's enduring legacy.
At the forefront of political figures pushing this Act were top Democrats like Ted Kennedy and Lyndon Baines Johnson, who falsely reassured Americans that this wouldn't lead to cultural destruction.
“First, our cities will not be flooded with a million immigrants annually," Kennedy said. "Under the proposed bill, the present level of immigration remains substantially the same. ... Secondly, the ethnic mix of this country will not be upset. ... Contrary to the charges in some quarters, [the bill] will not inundate America with immigrants from any one country or area, or the most populated and economically deprived nations of Africa and Asia.”

This smacks of a blatant lie. He described concerns as “highly emotional, irrational, and with little foundation in fact” and “out of line with the obligations of responsible citizenship.”
LBJ was similarly dishonest. "This bill that we will sign today is not a revolutionary bill," he claimed. "It does not affect the lives of millions. It will not reshape the structure of our daily lives, or really add importantly to either our wealth or our power.”
The Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965 produced consequences far larger and more transformative than its sponsors had publicly predicted. Once the law took full effect, legal immigration levels rose markedly.
Annual admissions, which had hovered in the rough range of 250,000 to 300,000 in the years preceding the reform, climbed well into the hundreds of thousands and, in later decades, frequently exceeded one million when family members and related categories were included.

At the same time, the geographic origins of newcomers shifted dramatically. Europe’s long-dominant share declined sharply, while Latin America and Asia rapidly became the primary sources of legal immigration. By the 1970s, those two regions together accounted for the large majority of legal arrivals.
If you combine this with the wave of illegal immigration that has grown steadily since the "amnesty" of Ronald Reagan and the open-border policies of Barack Obama and Joe Biden, then you are looking at the "fundamental transformation" of the United States.
The main hurdles to the Democrat Party implementing socialism in America were two-fold. First, native-born Americans had been educated to be wary of socialism, if not to outright reject it. Second, these citizens had come to love America due to its patriotic history, cultural cohesion, stable governance, many opportunities, and rising standard of living.
The Democrats were able to solve both issues. They took over the education system and turned schools into indoctrination centers to "teach" Americans how to hate their own country. And then they imported millions of people from unfree nations in order to make the experience of America as a great nation fade away in the collective consciousness while diluting the political clout of the native-born majority.
These minorities have been imported and concentrated in urban centers, where the Democrats have installed political machines, leveraging "sanctuary city" status to preserve their power base. Shady elections and rampant corruption inevitably followed.
Now, the American Dream has been corrupted through the institutionalization of socialism, which penalizes hard work and initiative, while rewarding free-riding and corruption. It is a recipe for national disaster.
If Americans want to preserve a free country, they need to stop giving it away to foreigners who don't know what it means to live in one. That ultimately means stopping the people who fundamentally reject America as it was founded: Socialist Democrats.
