During the opening comments on Monday at the White House press briefing, Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt spoke about the two West Virginia guard troops, Sarah Beckstrom and Andrew Wolfe, who were shot by an Afghan National last week, calling them heroes and more.

"Sarah Beckstrom died from her wounds. She was just 20 years old," Leavitt said. "President [Donald] Trump and the entire White House are praying for Andrew's [Wolfe] full recovery at the request of his parents in the personal phone call with the president over the weekend. And we are keeping Sarah's family and friends in our prayers during this unimaginably difficult time.

"Sarah and Andrew represent the very best of America...both of them truly embody the profound words spoken by Jesus Christ in the gospel, 'Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one's life for one's friends,'" she added. "Sarah and Andrew are heroes, and we will never forget their sacrifice."

"That means ensuring the monster responsible for this atrocity is prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law and faces the most severe punishment possible," Leavitt continued. "It also means reckoning with why this atrocity was allowed to happen in the first place so that it may never occur again."

While Beckstrom unfortunately died from her injuries, Wolfe has continued to fight for his life in the hospital.

On Monday, West Virginia Republican Governor Patrick Morrisey shared an update on Wolfe, who was injured in the horrible ambush.

"Andrew remains in serious condition," Morrisey said during a press conference. "We did get some positive news that we were told that Andrew was asked if he could hear the nurse who asked the question to give a thumbs up, and he did respond. We were told that he also wiggled his toes. So we take that as a positive sign."

Later in the presser, Morrisey added, "But most importantly, my biggest message is Andrew is still fighting for his life. Andrew needs prayers. And the parents have said, please use every opportunity to ask for prayers, and that's what we're going to do."

"I think that the West Virginia people are strong and they know that everything is being done right now to ensure that justice is served," the governor continued. "But equally important, we have to do everything possible to send prayers and to console people who are going through just unspeakable times right now."
