Legendary director Mel Brooks made a huge announcement on Thursday about the highly anticipated sequel "Spaceballs 2" and his part in the "Star Wars" parody and cult classic.

In a teaser clip he posted on X, the 98-year-old actor wrote, "I told you we'd be back." The post has since gone viral, with more than 4 million views and counting.

In "Star Wars" style with a crawling message on the screen, the first part of the clip mocked all the "Star Wars" movies and sequels that have come out since the original "Spaceballs" in 1987.

It read, "Thirty-years-ago, there was only one 'Star Wars' trilogy, but since then there have been…." as it listed all the Marvel films, all the "Star Wars" projects connected to the franchise, and trolled DC Universe attempts to make a blockbuster hit.

In closing, the final screen read, "But in thirty years there has only been one 'Space Balls'… until now."

"After forty years, we asked what do the fans want," Brooks said in the clip. "But instead, we're making this movie."

An image of a cracked, smoking Vader-like mask from the original film then appeared on the screen. Brooks, in the voice of his wise Jedi Master-like character "Yogurt," said his famous line nearly four decades after the original hit the big screen and exclaimed, once more, "May the Schwartz be with you!"

The closing message on the screen read, "The Schwartz awakens in 2027," revealing when it will be in theaters.

In a post shared on X by Amazon MGM Studios, it confirmed the people on board for the project, naming the "Blazing Saddles" director as one of the stars who will return to the big screen.

The post read:

Wow! I'm at a loss for words.

I'm beyond excited for this. If someone were to have told the 8-year-old me I would get to watch a new Spaceballs movie, let alone have the honor of working on it, I would have used the Schwartz against you. And using the Schwartz is exactly what Mel Brooks, Josh Gad, and Amazon MGM Studios will be doing in theaters in 2027! This is a day one, must see release! If this is not the best announcement of the year, I'm not sure what is! #Spaceballs #MelBrooks #AmazonMGMStudios #onlyintheaters #ad

Brooks wrote, directed, and starred, as "Yogurt" and "President Skroob," in the satirical movie that mocked the original "Star Wars" films, "Star Wars: A New Hope," "Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back," and "Star Wars: Return of the Jedi" along with "Alien" for good measure.

The "Young Frankenstein" director will produce the sequel, along with Gad and director Josh Greenbaum helming the project, Variety reported. The script comes from Gad, Benji Samit, and Dan Hernandez, as announced last year.

While we now know a few more things about "Space Balls 2," details about what fans can expect are still being kept a secret.

Variety noted that:

Plot details also remain under wraps, but a tentative logline, laden with Brooks-era humor, describes the movie as "A Non-Prequel Non-Reboot Sequel Part Two but with Reboot Elements Franchise Expansion Film."

The original cast featured stars from the day, including actor John Candy, Rick Moranis, Dick Van Patten, Joan Rivers, Bill Pullman, and, of course, Brooks.

News of Brooks reprising his role comes after Deadline reported that he might not be the only star from the original movie returning for the sequel.

Moranis played Lord Dark Helmet in the original movie and could possibly be coming out of retirement to reprise the role, along with Pullman, who played the main male character Lone Star, the outlet noted.

In 2024, the studio confirmed rumors that the sequel might finally be happening, Hollywood Reporter reported at the time.

The confirmation came after Gad appeared to tease the project, making several posts on his social media, including an image of the front page of a script blocked out.

"Just handed in a film script that I think may be the funniest and best thing I've ever worked on, and I am so freaking excited," Gad captioned his post.

One part of the script that wasn't blacked out appeared to read, "based on characters created by Mel …" Gad followed it up with a second post that included screenshots of articles about the sequel happening.

He captioned it, "Holy [..]. Talk about ludicrous speed. #spaceballs."

All I can say is take my money. I don't think it is possible to count how many times I have watched the hilarious original film. It's one of those movies, I am sure you have them, where if the movie comes on your screen, you can't stop everything you are doing and watch it.

I will definitely keep you posted when I learn anything further about the cast, plot, etc. In true Brooks fashion, the original was anything but Politically Correct. I have to admit, I do worry if those involved in the project are going to appeal to current standards approved by the left. But for now, I will remain optimistic, and I truly can't wait to see this on the big screen!

Stay tuned!
