Trump Tells Senate GOP He's Not Signing Any Other Legislation Until SAVE America Act Is Passed

President Donald Trump is juggling multiple major priorities at this moment in time, but reminded Senate Republicans late Saturday night that he expects them to get the SAVE America Act passed, pronto.

After Scott Presler, who's been lobbying legislators for months about the bill, appeared on Fox & Friends Sunday to urge Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) to use the talking filibuster to get it passed, Trump returned to Truth Social to up the ante, saying he wouldn't "sign any other bills until this is passed, AND NOT THE WATERED DOWN VERSION."

This might be the only way to get the obstinate Thune to take action, and gives other Senate Republicans more leverage to force Thune's hand. If there's one thing legislators don't like, it's the inability to continually send pork back home and pass legislation favoring their buddies, so any interruption in this flow is a big deal.

Trump wrote:

Great Job by hard working Scott Pressler on Fox & Friends talking about using the Filibuster, or Talking Filibuster, in order to pass THE SAVE AMERICA ACT, an 88% issue with ALL VOTERS. It must be done immediately. It supersedes everything else. MUST GO TO THE FRONT OF THE LINE. I, as President, will not sign other Bills until this is passed, AND NOT THE WATERED DOWN VERSION - GO FOR THE GOLD: MUST SHOW VOTER I.D. & PROOF OF CITIZENSHIP: NO MAIL-IN BALLOTS EXCEPT FOR MILITARY - ILLNESS, DISABILITY, TRAVEL: NO MEN IN WOMEN’S SPORTS: NO TRANSGENDER MUTILIZATION [sic] FOR CHILDREN! DO NOT FAIL!!! President DONALD J. TRUMP

In his appearance, Presler said:

If you want to do right by the American people that duly elected you into the seats that you are in right now when we gave Republicans the opportunity to lead and be the adults in the room, pass the SAVE America Act into law, and I think that we are going to see a surge of voters come out in the midterm elections."

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, who's currently in a runoff primary election with Sen. John Cornyn, said Thursday that he would drop out of the race if "Senate Leadership agrees to lift the filibuster and passes the SAVE America Act," claiming that Cornyn "has refused to support abolishing the filibuster to pass this bill."

Cornyn, who co-sponsored the bill, came out in support of using the talking filibuster to get the bill passed on Saturday.

Elderly Senators like Mitch McConnell are against taking that step, because it would require all of the Republican Senators to be physically present at the Capitol for the duration of the filibuster; McConnell needs to realize that the ability to be physically present during a talking filibuster is a job requirement, and any senators who can't fulfill it need to retire. Since Republicans will be losing Sen. Markwayne Mullin (R-OK) around the end of the month when he will have to resign to take on the role of Secretary of Homeland Security, it's even more important that Republicans do whatever it takes to get the bill passed as soon as possible.
