Feel-Good Friday: Foreign World Cup Fans Remind Us There's No Place Like America - We Should Be Proud

This Friday, we are taking a brief departure from commencement Feel-Goods. Because this week, the foreign fans who are visiting America for the FIFA World Cup have pretty much broken the internet. But they've done more than that: they've taken Feel Good to a new level in their awe, wonder, and appreciation of our great United States.

As you can tell by the multiple articles, Team RedState has been absolutely kvelling over these European and other places' tourists, especially a German X user named Freddy, who has been completely childlike in his discoveries of America's sights, sounds, and landscapes. Freddy has gotten reposts and shoutouts on X from the White House Rapid Response, Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy, FL Gov. Ron DeSantis (R), and Sen. Katie Britt (R-AL).

But as my colleague Teri Christoph also documented, it's not just Freddy. In this age of social media, European Gen Zers are gladly streaming their experiences across our great country, expressing their love and delight of all things American.

This really is the Feel-Good story of the month, and an incredible lead-in to America's 250th anniversary on July 4. Between these European youngins' and the slap down of the Karens who tried to stop President Donald Trump's Sunday UFC fight on the White House lawn, my chest has been swollen with pride. This country, and its citizens, are all kinds of awesome; and it's wonderful to have it recognized through the eyes of those who fully comprehend its worth because it literally exists nowhere else. Americans should take nothing for granted, especially the blessings of liberty.

America, Heck, yeah! Is the subject of this Week's Feel-Good Friday.

Depending on which particular game the Euro youth wanted to attend, we've had opportunities to see different parts of the country and get their unique perspectives. My colleague Nick Arama documented Freddy's journey through the Southern states of Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana, on his way to attend a World Cup game in Houston.

It puts a smile on your face to see these young people deriving pleasure from their experiences—experiences which we Americans too often take for granted. This Brussels soccer player went wild, as he drove his monster truck rental vehicle and bopped to country music.

Or Leah Ray from the U.K. Someone gifted her tickets to the World Cup, and she has been having an awesome time discovering the real America, not the curated and bigoted crap on Netflix and HBO.

This Brit has come to understand why others fought for—and died for—our independence, and why we are the best country in the world, hands down.

Not only are the Europeans (and Britons like Leah Ray) getting educated on our culture and norms, they are also having their minds blown over our history and hobbies.

As well as getting fat and happy with our uniquely American cuisines.

This one is hilarious: This Italian has discovered free refills, and he'll never be the same.

Which brings us to Sean from Scotland. Sean has been traversing the country for the World Cup, going from Texas, to New York, to Boston. With his short videos and super cool Scottish brogue, he has been giving Americans laughs, along with food envy. The man loves to eat our cuisine.

There is so much more. Along with Freddy, Sean is a great follow on X, and his travels garnered him an appearance on Friday with Fox News' The Will Cain Show. When Will asked Sean what his favorite thing is about America, Sean was effusive in his praise of its people:

Absolutely, the people. I have come here a couple of times now, and whenever I'm here, the people are so warm and generous. I have a great time. The people here, across different states, living in different parts of America. Different beliefs, different politics. I've always met really kind and generous people here. That's the one thing I always take away with me.

What Sean described was fully exemplified through small towns in Kansas uniting to offer hospitality and a warm welcome to Team Algeria.

As I wrote on Wednesday

As long as people remain mired in the bigoted representations they hold or their carefully curated moments where they fly in, do their thing, fly out, and still claim they've explored the country, they will never get an appreciation of how uniquely connected we are or what it truly means to be an American.

Sean, Leah, Freddy, and others like Skylar below, are holding up a mirror to us and forcing us to see how good we have it, and that we need to renew and regain our sense of awe and wonder about our nation. America is not just beautiful and diverse, but it is a warm, welcoming, and transformative place; and it is the people who make it so.

Which brings us to Jason Bartlett. Bartlett is not here for the World Cup. He was among the group of white South Africans who were given asylum here in America. Since then, Bartlett will not stop talking about how wonderful this country is and expressing his gratitude to President Donald Trump for granting him a safe home. Perhaps we should spend the next few weeks leading to America's 250 finding fresh ways to express our gratitude for this great nation of ours, and with whole hearts and full chests, speaking about its greatness to anyone who will listen.

Bartlett also reminds us to never forget: freedom isn't free.
