Candidate for California governor and former congresswoman Katie Porter has stayed too long at the fair. This was apparent when she lost her Senate bid to the equally egregious former Congressman (now Senator) Adam Schiff. After the recently leaked interview that is blowing up social media, the supposed Democrat front-runner to take over Gavin Newsom's seat may have written her own exit papers.
Ma tha Siobhan (if God is merciful).
As my colleague Bonchie reported, unflattering footage was leaked of Porter during a CBS News California gubernatorial candidate forum, where they interviewed 11 of the current candidates.
On the caption for the full video, CBS said,
CBS News California Investigates pressed beyond campaign talking points to uncover where the candidates for governor truly stand on Proposition 50 and California’s redistricting fight. Over several weeks in September, Investigative reporter Julie Watts sat down with each candidate to ask tough, direct questions on a variety of issues that matter to voters. In this segment, we examine Redistricting.
While Democratic candidates generally backed Prop 50 along party lines, some admitted unease when pressed on the details. Republican and Green Party opponents defended their opposition while responding to arguments in favor of the measure.
We compiled their answers — in alphabetical order — to highlight where the candidates agree, where they diverge, and where they hesitate.
I watched the entire video, and every candidate received the same questions and the same pushback and follow-up from investigative reporter Julie Watts. As Bonchie explained, Porter did more than hesitate: she threw a full-on temper tantrum because Watts wouldn't give her the prima donna treatment.
To say Porter has anger issues is an understatement, and those flashed again during a recent interview with CBS in Sacramento. Facing mild questions (which were asked of every candidate) about her electability, Porter once again acted like a complete and total psycho, eventually "calling" the sit-down.
Things kicked off when Porter told the interviewer she doesn't need Trump voters. When pressed on what she meant by that, the former congresswoman repeatedly contradicted herself. That's when things got tense.
The clip is making the rounds and is on loop. Inject it into my veins — each time I view this, I am more amazed that Porter has lasted this long in the public eye.

Porter's clapback at Watts, "I've never had to do this before — ever!" is not just jaw-dropping, but revelatory. She spent six years in Congress being fêted as a Democrat star because she worked the intersectional female, working mom card and cosplayed as a progressive champion who knew how to attack Republicans. Porter had no real substance, but became high on her own hype when she saw this as an opportunity to run for higher office. It didn't take long for her mile-wide and puddle-deep grasp of actual policy and the real electorate, not just her fan-boys and girls, to be revealed.

Democrat Rep. Katie Porter claims #Bidenflation "reinforce[s]" the "need" for abortion.

"The fact that we're seeing this jump in expenses ... pay more at the grocery store, pay more at the pump, pay more for housing is a reason" for abortion. pic.twitter.com/jVjuzXRhPz
What isn't new is her impatient, hair-trigger volatility, which was initially covered up by the Democrat Party, but now that she is no longer their progressive darling (Hello, Jasmine Crockett), they have other "stars" these days for whom they need to run interference.
In 2023, when Porter mounted her Senate bid for the coveted Dianne Feinstein seat and simultaneously released a memoir, her divorce records somehow resurfaced. In them, it showed that her husband had filed a restraining order against her for alleged abuse, like pouring a boiling bowl of potatoes on his head. You cannot make this stuff up.

Along with her ex-husband, RedState reported that staffers and even the mayor of Irvine were the targets of Porter's rage flashes.
In 2021, Porter's text messages to then-Irvine Mayor Farrah Khan, where she unloaded on Khan for the arrest of her boyfriend, were leaked.
In the aftermath of the attack, though, Porter appeared to harbor some ill feelings toward the Irvine Police Department.
“Your police force is a disgrace,” Porter told Irvine Mayor Farrah Khan in text messages from the time exclusively obtained by Fox News Digital.
“I will never trust them again,” Porter also said as Khan offered to speak with the congresswoman on the phone about the situation.
In 2022, text messages between former Porter staffer Sasha Georgiades and Porter were also revealed (seeing a pattern here?). In those messages, Porter accused Georgiades of giving her COVID and banned her from working at the office. Georgiades said at the time that she believed that had she not been a Wounded Warrior fellow, Porter would have gotten rid of her. An X account called "Dear White Staffers," which broke the story, also had Porter in the top tier of Congress critters with the highest staff turnover.
This is our shocked face.
According to text messages released on Thursday, Porter accused Georgiades of giving her COVID, and effectively banned her from working in the office, What made it even worse? Georgiades was a Wounded Warrior Fellow operating as a veteran liaison for Porter’s office and worked for Porter for two years.
Georgiades said she wasn’t fired because she was a Fellow, so Porter wasn’t able to fire her, but the Naval veteran said, “I do believe if there hadn’t been that protection of the wounded warrior program she would have.”
Good (and loyal) help is hard to find, especially when you have the management style of Attila the Hun and the personality of Annie Wilkes.

With this trainwreck of an interview, Porter has now given major cannon fodder to her opponents — both Democrat and Republican. The California primaries are in June 2026, which gives ample opportunity for the very large bench of candidates to push her out of the top tier. With LatinX stalwarts like former HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra, former Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, and Sen. Alex Padilla in the candidate mix, Porter won't be able to ride her typical intersectionality card. Even in California, when you have a terrible record, no charm, and little game, it's a pretty good indicator that it's time to hang it up and go make some money as a consultant. Let's see if Porter takes the off-ramp.
