Freshman Alabama Senator and Donald Trump ally Katie Britt has been chosen to deliver the Republican response to President Joe Biden's March 7 State of the Union address.

Britt was sworn into office last year after being endorsed by former President Trump in her Senate race, becoming the first woman elected to represent Alabama in the U.S. Senate.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) also announced the news on X. Britt joined McConnell’s leadership team as an informal adviser last year.

Hand-selected by Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and House Speaker Mike Johnson, her fresh image as the youngest sitting female senator presents good optics in contrast to an 81-year-old president with significant physical and cognitive issues.

Johnson exhibited high praise for Britt.

Americans are struggling amid a border catastrophe, crushing inflation, an increasingly dangerous world, and fears about a President not up to the task. Against this backdrop, Senator Katie Britt will share her incredible story as the first woman elected to the United States Senate from the state of Alabama. As the only current Republican mom of school-aged kids serving in the Senate, Katie is fighting to preserve the American Dream for the next generation. She is a champion for strong families, a secure border, national defense and a vibrant economy with stable prices and opportunities for all. The American people will tune in as the youngest Republican woman ever elected to the Senate turns the page on the oldest President in history.

One of McConnell's last acts as Republican Senate Leader, he also boasted of Britt's optimism.

Glad to announce with @SpeakerJohnson that @SenKatieBritt will deliver the Republican address to the nation next Thursday. The American people will hear from an unapologetic optimist fighting to secure a stronger future and leave Washington Democrats’ failures behind.

For a first-term senator, Britt has risen quickly through the ranks of leadership, and she has shown her muster. Britt is a staunch critic of President Joe Biden, particularly concerning the Southern border and Biden's weakness on the international stage.

WATCH:

Among her many committee assignments, Britt serves on two of the most powerful — Appropriations and Homeland Security — and is a fierce investigator and prominent challenger to those under oversight. Britt also confirmed to Fox Digital that she would be open to the Senate holding impeachment hearings for Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.
