Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) lashed out at Secretary of State Antony Blinken for having the temerity to write a post on social media celebrating the Geneva Conventions, which established rules and guidelines for war.
The reason for Tlaib’s anger was obvious: The Biden administration isn’t doing enough to pressure Israel to surrender in its conflict against the terrorist group Hamas.
In response to Blinken’s post on X, Tlaib wrote, “Is this a joke?”
In a subsequent post, the lawmaker accused Blinken of supporting war crimes. “You supported sending more U.S. made bombs being used to commit war crimes. The government of Israel bombed hospitals, schools, and tents full of displaced Palestinians. How can you say you are for respecting international human rights laws?” she wrote.

In his post, Blinken said:
"Today we commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the Geneva Conventions of 1949. The United States reaffirms our steadfast commitment to respecting international humanitarian law and mitigating suffering in armed conflict. We call on others to do the same."

The Geneva Conventions laid out a series of rules and international laws regarding the treatment of civilians in wartime, which is why Tlaib is trying to use it as a weapon against Israel. Yet, it doesn’t take much thought to figure out that folks like Tlaib care nothing about the Geneva Conventions.
As I always say, you can tell if a person actually believes in the principles they espouse by looking at how they apply them against those on the opposite side of the debate. When has Tlaib ever condemned Hamas’ continued use of civilians as human shields in their operations against Israel? The terrorist group has become known for deliberately placing civilians between themselves and Israel’s counterattacks – and the group has been engaging in this practice since it was founded.
The Geneva Conventions expressly forbid the use of civilians as human shields. Yet, Tlaib has no problem with Hamas forcing Palestinian non-combatants to act in this fashion. If Israel chooses not to attack a certain area where Hamas operatives are located, then it means the terrorists and their weapons remain intact. If Israel does strike, and civilians are killed, then Hamas can use their deaths as propaganda tools against the Jewish state. It creates a win-win situation for the group.
Moreover, Hamas clearly violated the Geneva Conventions when it deliberately targeted Israeli civilians in its October 7 assault that sparked the current conflict in Gaza. The terrorists slaughtered and kidnapped Israelis on that day. There have been several reports of female Israeli hostages being raped by Hamas terrorists – all violations of the conventions. Yet, Tlaib has shown little to no concern about this.
For folks like Rashida Tlaib, the objective is to target Israel under the guise of being concerned for the plight of Palestinian civilians. Yet, when it comes to the treatment of these civilians by the terrorist group that rules them, they are conspicuously silent, which suggests their attacks against Israel are rooted in something other than outrage over civilian suffering.
