President Joe Biden on Monday told yet another fib about his life story during a speech in Wisconsin. While touting his administration’s plans for more student loan forgiveness, he claimed he was the first in his family to go to college.
"I, like an awful lot of people in this audience, was the first in my family to go to college, and watch my dad struggle to help me get there,” he said.
However, users on X, formerly Twitter, quickly set the record straight using his previous comments to the contrary. Unfortunately for Biden, footage of him telling a different story was readily available for diligent social media users, who pointed out that he previously talked about his grandfather, who played college football.
Joe Biden just said in a speech in Wisconsin "I, like an awful lot of people in this audience, was the first in my family to go to college."

That is a lie.
One of the reasons we know it's a lie is because Biden has bragged several times in the past about how his grandfather… pic.twitter.com/1ppP90RDnD

He's lying. In 1987, he was even forced to admit it's a total LIE (after he plagiarized a British politician). pic.twitter.com/nUmIMrApwX

This was not the first time Biden has spun this particular yarn. During a CNN town hall in 2020, he made the same false claim.
Democratic presidential nominee Joseph R. Biden was on a roll during Thursday’s CNN town hall as he played up his working-class roots, until he repeated the long-debunked claim about being the first person in his family to attend college.
“Like, guys like me, were the first in my family to go to college,” said Mr. Biden after being asked about White privilege, adding, “We are as good as anybody else. And guys like Trump, who inherited everything and squandered what they inherited are the people that I’ve always had a problem with, not the people who are busting their neck.’

In fact, Biden was forced to admit in 1987 after he plagiarized a British politician that that was not true. https://t.co/8u0F3c2UDg pic.twitter.com/mQnee9LahM
Don’t bother asking if any major left-leaning news outlet corrected Biden’s comments — of course they did not because his name is not Donald J. Trump. However, to be fair, it is not clear at this point whether he was lying or simply couldn’t remember his grandfather’s college athletic career.
