Is there anything these people won’t exploit the mass shooting in Uvalde, Texas for? Now, at least one member of the activist media is trying to use the attack to convince the White House to safeguard illegal immigrants living in the region.
CNN national security analyst Juliette Kayyem suggested on Tuesday that President Joe Biden should cease immigration enforcement in the area because of the demographic makeup of the local population. She referred to the fact that Uvalde’s population is mostly Hispanic and that this could mean illegals might be placed in a precarious position in the wake of the massacre.
“The most important thing for the federal government to do right now is to say there will be no immigration enforcement during this period in that area,” Kayyem argued. “It has a large immigration [sic] population. You want parents with their kids, you don’t want people hiding right now, and we need to make that clear ASAP.”

She continued, saying that “political issues in Texas” have made it necessary for the White House to curtail immigration enforcement in the region.
“Again, I don’t know motives, we don’t know motives. I am just telling you demographics. It is a predominantly Hispanic population with a large immigrant community relatively near San Antonio,” she said later In the conversation.
The media activist argued that not only should the administration stop enforcing immigration laws around Uvalde, but the president should declare the area a safe harbor for illegals.
“We need the federal government to say right now, everyone is essentially safe harbor right now in terms of immigration status,” she insisted. “We need people to come forward, not to be fearful of immigration status, get their kids, get their family members.”
“Because what happens in incidents like this is when we’re going to have a strong police presence, a strong federal presence, we know this: a lot of people do not react — especially if their status is unknown — do not react to police presence as you or I may,” she added.
“We want to make sure that they know, despite all the politics going on in Texas right now, it’s the federal government that’s in charge of immigration enforcement, and people are safe,” Kayyem said. “Get your kids, get your families together — do not hide. The White House just needs to say that right now.”
However, Uvalde Mayor Don McLaughlin, a Republican, repudiated Kayyem’s assertions, claiming the Hispanic community in the city has grown tired of the influx of illegal aliens crossing the border. “The Hispanic community is fed up with this. We have a lot of great Hispanic families in our community, and their parents came over the right way,” he said Saturday during an appearance on Fox News.
“We just keep flooding [immigrants] over and over, and the Hispanic community is fed up with it,” he continued.
Kayyem’s absurd comments come only days after a report revealed that another migrant surge is brewing at the southern border despite the Biden administration’s failed attempt to lift Title 42. Border Patrol reported apprehending thousands of individuals trying to enter the United States legally and illegally. Breitbart News reported:
Whether Title 42 ends or not, migrants say they are tired of waiting and surged across the Rio Grande into the Eagle Pass, Texas, area of operations. As many as 3,600 crossed so far this weekend — eclipsing last weekend’s total of just over 2,800 migrant apprehensions in the Del Rio Sector — according to a source operating within U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
Border Patrol officials called in all available agents in Eagle Pass on Sunday as increasing numbers of migrants crossed the border illegally from Mexico into Texas. Sunday evening, a large group of more than 250 migrants crossed near Normandy, Texas, while others streamed across into Eagle Pass.
Even the most casual of observers could see that halting immigration enforcement activities in Texas would be a horrendous idea given Biden’s ongoing migrant crisis. It would only encourage even more migrants to cross the border. Moreover, the shooting at Robb Elementary School has nothing to do with immigration policy and is not an excuse for allowing illegals to reside in the area with impunity. Of course, Kayyem knows this, but she was likely hoping that even though it’s a longshot, she might convince someone in the White House to follow through with her ridiculous idea. But even this administration would probably know better than to try such a stupid move.
