“Good for thee, but not for me,” has been the left’s mantra when addressing a host of issues. They enact onerous COVID-19 restrictions that they don’t bother to follow. The will use capitalism to promote themselves while shaming others for becoming wealthy. But in this particular story, a Seattle politician who vocally supported the idea of defunding police departments ended up using law enforcement when she became a victim of crime.

Seattle city councilwoman Lisa Herbold recently called the police after an incident that occurred at her home. The Washington Examiner reported that: the councilwoman, Lisa Herbold, called the police earlier this month after a man reportedly threw a rock through her window. Herbold said ‘she was on the west side of the living room near the kitchen when she heard a loud noise that sounded like a gunshot and dove into the kitchen for cover,’ according to the police report.”

A witness told law enforcement that they saw a person they described as “unathletic and a bad runner” fleeing the scene.

Of course, anyone would, and should call the police if they had this type of experience. But there is more to this story.

“The incident came after Herbold spearheaded an effort over the summer to defund Seattle’s police, voting to approve cuts of about $3.5 million to the department’s budget. She has also led an effort in the city to dismiss most misdemeanor crimes if suspects can show symptoms of mental illness, addiction, or if they committed the crime out of a need to survive.”

Herbold told the Public Safety Committee, “It’s giving people an opportunity to tell their stories and giving judges and juries the opportunity to hear those stories and make a decision based on the values of our city.”

The councilmember released a statement to Fox News defending her proposal, claiming that that she is not trying to legalize crimes. “There are no crimes that I am ‘effectively pushing to make legal,’” she said.

The irony seems to be lost on people like Herbold. They actively fight to weaken their city’s police departments even when confronted with examples showing why residents need law enforcement. What’s even worse is the fact that most of these people will never have to experience the consequences of minimizing the police.

While Herbold was on the receiving end of a crime, her situation is not nearly as bad as those who actually need officers who can protect them. Indeed, most of the white progressives who are pushing for anti-police measures will never deal with the negative consequences of such a move.

They can push legislation making it more difficult for officers to do their jobs knowing that they are mostly shielded from violent criminals. Indeed, it is black residents who are most likely to be victimized by violent crime, and defunding the police will only place more black Americans in danger. But progressives are beyond caring about such a trifling detail if it means they can promote their Marxist agenda under the guise of safeguard black folks.
