1. Did a Candidate for the U.S. Senate Use Your Tax Dollars to Help a Mexican Drug Trafficker?

By now it’s a well known and established fact that Utah Senate candidate Tim Bridgewater isn’t exactly the traditional small business man that he wants Utah voters to believe; rather, he’s a lobbyist who specializes in getting taxpayer money for his own and for his clients’ businesses – including overseas businesses like Indonesia Power. But did Tim Bridgewater stoop so low as to secure a $3 million taxpayer-funded loan to an alleged Mexican drug trafficker in 2004?Here are the facts. You decide. As Chairman of the Board of Interlink Capital Strategies, Tim Bridgewater did in fact secure a $3 million OPIC government loan for a subsidiary of Canelos, Inc. The loan was to be used to buy land to build low-income Mexican housing. Now I know some of you are probably asking yourself, “Why the @#^&%! is the government lending taxpayer money to build housing in Mexico?” Calm down and take a deep breath, because it gets worse! Please click here for the rest of the post.

2. One Conservative Woman Became An Army of One and Won

If you want a government by and for the establishment insiders, stand down and do nothing – that’s what you’ll get. If you want better, you need to support true conservatives who have the guts to fight the establishment. Pamela Gorman running in Arizona’s 3rd Congressional District is one of those conservatives.Let me tell you a story. Despite being called the “Clean Elections” law, the Arizona public financing law has been anything but “clean.” Thankfully, the Goldwater Institute has been challenging the law (and winning) in the courts. At the end of the session last year, Senator Pamela Gorman single-handedly killed an insider deal that would have kept the “taxpayer-financed, full employment act for political insiders” pumping public cash into the system for another year. Please click here for the rest of the post.

3. Mitch Daniels Declares Surrender

I have had great hopes for the Governor of Indiana running for President. Signs are starting to point to a run and in the process Daniels is signaling he is not so much a leader as a technocratic wonk and not so much driven by fiscal conservative principles as by bureaucratically generated data.A leader would not pick an unnecessary fight with social conservatives before even starting a run for office unless he wanted to start out by marginalizing social conservatives. Please click here for the rest of the post.

4. At Least One Indiana Republican Is Showing True Leadership Skills

Mike Pence was on CNN earlier today and Candy Crowley asked him about Mitch Daniels’ proposed truce on social issues.Pence handled it as a real conservative should. He said he “believes with all of [his] heart that Republicans need to continue to fight for the sanctity of life and the sanctity of marriage with everything [they]‘ve got in 2010 and in 2012.” But he then refused to engage in beating up Mitch Daniels.Mark Halperin, leading the Gang of 500 to its conventional wisdom endpoint says Pence is seeking a truce on ‘truce’ when given the opportunity to go after Daniels.Nonsense. 5. ‘The Buck Stops… with me.’

I just noticed that the President kind of likes to use that phrase a bit. I wonder if he realizes that it makes him look like a bit of a narcissist? Particularly since he’s clearly using that phrase in all those occasions to argue that while bad things that happen under his watch are always his responsibility, they’re never his fault. Even the Christmas bombing attack was declared by the President to be ultimately the fault of a pre-Obama watch list system. It’s frankly a far cry from ‘The buck stops here,’ which is at heart an admission that policy decisions flow from the top, and failures in policy are in fact in some way the fault of the people who are ultimately responsible for them. Then again, Barack Obama is also a far cry from being another Harry S Truman. Please click here for the rest of the post.

6. Interior Secretary Salazar lies about drilling peer review.

Basically, what happened was that Salazar added language to a report on the Gulf oil spill, and that said language called for a drilling moratorium. That’s not the lie: the Interior Secretary is allowed to make his own recommendations, even when they’re dunderheaded recommendations. No, this is the lie . . .Please click here for the rest of the post.

7. RedState-Truth-O-Meter – Obama Promise Broken

Remember when President Obama said on April 18, 2009 “in the coming weeks, I will be announcing the elimination of dozens of government programs shown to be wasteful or ineffective. In this effort, there will be no sacred cows, and no pet projects. All across America, families are making hard choices, and it’s time their government did the same.” We are still waiting for this promise to be completed Mr. President. As the federal debt is exploding to the tune of $13 trillion+, it is time to make some “hard choices” to eliminate waste, fraud abuse” and “pet projects” from the federal budget. Please click here for the rest of the post.

8. ObamaCare Tax Credit Myth

Being somewhat of a libertarian, I wasn’t a supporter of ObamaCare. However, a few months after passage, a postcard arrived which led me to believe there may be a benefit coming to my small firm. The mailing from the Treasury Department touted a generous 35% tax credit to firms with less than 25 full-time employees averaging less than $50K per year in wages — that’s us! In fact, we’re right in the sweet spot with 17 full-time employees earning approximately $42,000 per year. Please click here for the rest of the post.
