I'm not a huge Star Trek fan, but I do appreciate the franchise for what it is, or rather, what it was.
As I wrote in January, what Star Trek is today is a far cry from what it once was, and it's all thanks to a man named Alex Kurtzman. Somehow, through what I can only assume is a deal with the devil, Kurtzman was given the job of heading up the Star Trek empire, and what he did with it is nothing short of tragic.
Identity politics, DEI-based casting, left-leaning themes, and "modern audience" focus now plague the show. As I wrote, the latest Kurtzman offering is Starfleet Academy, a show that's so infected with leftism that it literally has gay Klingons wearing skirts.

Gone are the days of Star Trek being the thinking man's sci-fi. It's just another offering of modern audience slop, wearing the mask of a show created and advanced by better storytellers.
The show is so despised that the YouTube channel Nerdrotic decided to compete directly with an official live-streamed episode of the show by putting a Spock action figure on a chair, and ended up getting three times the viewership.
I tell you all this because I want you to grasp how low this once great show has fallen, and that its mere existence shows you just how compromised CBS, the entity that brought him on, was.
But there's a new sheriff in town. Ever since the merger with Paramount and Warner Bros, Trek fans everywhere have been licking their lips at the prospect of Kurtzman's contract not being renewed and a new day for the franchise beginning. The hope is that the alienating qualities that are now plaguing the show can be purged, and Trek can get back on track.
Nerdrotic, the same YouTube channel that put on the Spock stunt that shamed Kurtzman, brought up a very interesting point.
"If you want to know what is ahead for Warnermount or ParaWarner or MountBros, keep an eye on what happens to Star Trek," he posted to X.

And I think he's right.
Kurtzman's treatment of Trek is one of the most blatant infections of woke in modern-day entertainment. It's at such a level that it almost feels disrespectful and antagonistic to classic Trek fans, like one of those action movie villains that smirks at the hero while they hold his girl hostage.
In this way, he's become an indication of where the bar will be for Paramount and its new head, David Zaslav.
According to TrekMovie.com, Kurtzman told them he is discussing his future with the corporation and claims he's gotten "nothing but support":
“Yes, I’ve had conversations with them about the future of Star Trek. Yes, we’ve gotten nothing but support. Yes, there have been specific shows that have been discussed. And we’ll see. I’m truly at the beginning of the conversation with them now. And so I hesitate to say anything to you, because I don’t have anything to report yet. But I can report that the conversations are happening.”
What you can pull from this conversation is... absolutely nothing.
Kurtzman is saying positive things because he wants positive results. For all we know, "nothing but support" means they're returning his emails about meetings in a timely manner.
But all eyes should be on Kurtzman, the destroyer of worlds. If Zaslav and Paramount allow him to stay and continue the degradation of Star Trek, then it will be an indicator of what kind of nonsense they will allow as a whole. If Star Trek continues to be this woke, then the question will have to be asked: Where else in the company, brands, franchises, etc., does the woke infection exist with the nod of Paramount execs?
I would continue to keep an eye on Star Trek and Kurtzman, in particular. Nerdrotic is right. As is the fate of Star Trek, so goes the fate of Paramount.
