The Oncoming AI Companion Plague Needs to Be Taken Far More Seriously

Dall-E

I've been sounding the alarm about the AI companion problem for some time now, and the response has been... less than encouraging.

As I've said, the AI Companion issue usually involves people (mostly men) finding romantic and sexual satisfaction in AI that are programmed to respond in amorous ways, including voice chat, pictures that can range from tame to very NSFW, and some websites are even testing out limited video capability now.

As I said in a recent video I made for YouTube, this technology will eventually combine to the point where AI companions don't have to give visuals through requests, but will just stay on screen as if you're having a Zoom call with a woman that looks real, talks as if they're real, and responds to you in real time.

As I say in my latest video about how dangerous this tech is going to be, these capabilities aren't far off. Maybe two to three years, with prototypes likely being tested by the end of this year.

And it is dangerous, but the responses to this danger usually fall into one of two camps.

The first is excitement that this tech will soon be so good that someone can feel like they have an actual connection to a woman. Younger people usually fall into this camp, and I'm not surprised. Many young men find it very hard to connect with women, many of whom are soaked in neo-feminism to the point where dating them is out of the question.

As I point out in the video, Gen Z is having a very hard time in the dating world, with marriage rates cratering, and the will to pursue relationships evaporating. Still, the need for companionship is strong, and with the dopamine hits given by AI companions who can fulfill a lot of your desires coming in waves, I see a lot of men abandoning society in many ways.

While Gen Z is already struggling, I see Gen Alpha having to contend with this problem in a much more intense way, as the technology will not just be advanced, it will also be normalized.

This brings me to the other reaction I get, and it's those who think this will never happen, despite it happening already.

This technology isn't even that advanced, and it's already roping in millions of people and becoming a very lucrative industry. Websites like Candy.ai get 10 million visits a month alone, roping in tons of subscriptions and purchases aside.

Yet, despite this, they think this won't be a threat to anyone, especially society. These people usually fall into the older generations who can't wrap their heads around why anyone would prefer a digital, fake entity over a real one.

This is all going to end very badly if we don't wake up to the realities of both society and the power of AI to connect and relate to people on a level no real human is capable of. This is "the stripper likes me" mentality, where the stripper in question actually reinforces that idea relentlessly. As humanity continues to withdraw from public and embrace the safety of entities that are consistently feeding uplifting and positive messages back to the user, this is only going to get worse.

Moreover, I can realistically see this reaching a boiling point as AI robots become a commonality as well, with more people choosing to be around these than humans.

Gary V spoke about this on the Iced Coffee Show podcast recently, saying there's a 100% chance that you will start seeing marriages occur between people and AI.

He's right, though we don't have to wait for the robots. Marriage to AI programs is happening already. One story has come out about a man who asked ChatGPT to marry him, and the relationship they formed together.

This CBS report, talking about this man, also dove into a subreddit of people who are already embracing AI relationships over real human connection, and that includes sexual gratification.

Let's be clear here. Many of these websites and companion apps are designed to drag you in, and keep you in. They will do things that grab your attention and keep it, pushing dopamine addictions in a way Vegas casinos and social media apps wish they could.

The technology is so new that I don't think people understand how addictive it is, and will be. These aren't basement dwellers getting roped in either. They're people with jobs, families, and more. Many think it's not that big of a deal because it's just a machine they're talking to, but this machine is a digital drug. It keeps you high and, in the process, gives you expectations that reality can't often match.

You think the physical act of being with someone would overpower this, but like a porn addiction, the dopamine reward system becomes so used to receiving it in this way that real world sex begins to lose its luster.

There's a tidal wave coming in fast and most people are focused on the sand, but it's going to hit and hit hard very soon. The destruction it will bring to our society will creep in quietly at first, but soon you'll look up and see how much is underwater.
