My colleague Sister Toldjah reported on a fantastic speech given by Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey out in Florida, who made it clear to anyone planning on rioting and putting people in danger that if they FA, they'll quickly FO.
Ivey didn't mince words and was very clear. Intimidation and violence will not be tolerated and will come with consequences, whether those consequences from from his men or just citizens trying to protect themselves:
“If you try to mob rule a car in Brevard County gathering around it, refusing to let the driver leave in our county, you’re most likely going to get run over and dragged across the street,” Ivey continued.
“If you spit on us, you’re going to the hospital and in jail. If you hit one of us, you’re going to the hospital and jail, and most likely get bitten by one of our big, beautiful dogs that we have here. If you throw a brick, a fire bomb, or a pointed gun at one of our deputies, we will be notifying your family where to collect your remains at. Because we will kill you, graveyard dead. We’re not going to play.”
To be clear, this wasn't just a message to any would-be rioters, it was a message to the law-abiding civilians that the local authorities have their back, and if they find themselves in the thick of danger, then they should have the bravery and nod to do what needs to be done to get out of said danger.
Truthfully, I think almost every Sheriff's department in America should issue such a statement. I think it should be clear what is and isn't legal in terms of protecting yourself against rioters, but it's something that I think America needs to hear from its law enforcement leaders overall. Not only would it empower the people, it would make rioters think twice about doing anything stupid. Our streets would become a lot quieter as a result.
But part of Toldjah's article was the reaction to it from the left, and it came in the form of Chuck Todd who posted "In America, taxpayer-funded officials don’t threaten citizens with death for expressing their right to assembly."
I'll let you read the reactions to that comment yourself, as they tear Todd an absolute new one for suggesting violently rioting is part of a right to assembly, or that pointing a gun at a police officer, or surrounding a vehicle with malicious intent is somehow legitimate expression.
What I want to point out is that the only reason Ivey had to say anything like that was because we spent so long trying to reason with these people to no avail, and in the process of doing so, only watched as destruction and violence rained down upon us in response. In fact, ignoring common sense and trying to talk it out has been a long, proud tradition of rioters for as long as I can remember, with my first introduction to barbarity they're willing to go to being Reginald Denny.
There have been good people who stopped their cars in an attempt to make sure they didn't hurt anyone, only to be dragged out of their vehicles and violently assaulted. They take over streets, stop people from getting back to their children, and even prevent emergency vehicles from delivering help to those that need it.
There is no reasoning with them, so that leaves all of us only one choice, to talk in the only language they understand; force.
And if the left is looking for someone to blame for us reaching this point, it should be themselves. They were the ones who went silent as violence erupted, or made excuses and labeled the violence as "mostly peaceful." It was them who made shows of solidarity by putting their hands up while on air. They were the ones who called domestic terrorist groups like Antifa an "idea."
They helped create these conditions, and now all we can do is exist in them.
So they can't be mad when some poor soul just trying to get his kids from point A to point B guns it over some idiot wearing a black hoodie and a keffiyeh who tried to stop his car by jumping into the middle of the road. In these instances, every peaceful, law-abiding citizen becomes Ivan Drago.
"If he dies, he dies."
If the left doesn't like that, then they need to change up their culture. Stop exhibiting violence. Stop trying to intimidate innocents and force them into compliance.
