Take the On/Off Switch for Energy Independence from the White House

It’s pretty clear that energy independence is a necessity for the security of our nation. If we weren’t having to rely on our enemies for our oil, and paying them large sums of money to boot, then they would be a lot worse off when it comes to planning for the destruction of others, including ourselves.

As RedState has previously covered, President Joe Biden promised something of a crusade against the oil industry to voters and vowed that he wouldn’t allow any new drilling in the United States. On day one of his presidency, he shut down construction of the Keystone XL pipeline, and from then on you couldn’t go a week without hearing something about “green energy.”

Those moves were what set the stage for the predicament we’re in now. We’re suffering an energy crisis because one man wanted to virtue signal on behalf of his entire party and win votes from people who think the world is going to end tomorrow because you drive a Silverado.

The fact that one man can swipe a pen across a piece of paper and shut down domestic oil production seems a bit dangerous, and we can see just how much of a threat a president can be to our own nation if he doesn’t like the way we produce energy. That doesn’t seem like a safe thing.

I discussed this very thing for a moment on RedState LIVE! where I noted that there has to be a change to the way our government operates in regards to energy production. One man shouldn’t be able to make that decision. As it should be, the stopping of oil production should be a vote in congress.

It would appear Ted Cruz agrees as he’s unveiled new legislation that would effectively stop the White House from acting unilaterally on oil production here in the United States.

Too much in America rides on energy, including national security and even the security of other nations. It’s massively irresponsible to fund our enemies while they hand us oil at jacked-up prices. Irresponsible and just plain dumb.
