The Next Shoe Drops: DOJ Officially Sets Its Sights on John Brennan

If John Brennan thought he would escape scrutiny for his deep role in the Russia collusion hoax, he thought wrong.

After the indictment of former FBI head James Comey for making false statements and obstruction, the Obama-era CIA director is next in line. According to a new report, U.S. attorneys in the Southern District of Florida are preparing grand jury subpoenas related to the case, and Brennan's indictment seems likely to follow.

Justice Department officials in Miami and Washington, D.C., are actively preparing to issue several grand jury subpoenas relating to an investigation into former CIA Director John Brennan, Fox News has learned. U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Florida Jason Reding Quiñones is supervising the probe, Fox News is told.

RedState writers, including myself, spent years chronicling Brennan's malfeasance. As part of the Barack Obama administration, he was the point man for formulating the Russia collusion narrative within the intelligence community. That included deciding to use the discredited Steele Dossier as a predicate despite it being known by the summer of 2016 that it was badly-sourced opposition research funded by the Hillary Clinton campaign. Of course, after that house of cards fell (but not before doing immense damage to President Donald Trump's first term), Brennan then joined the infamous "51 intelligence officials" letter falsely painting the Hunter Biden laptop scandal as a Russian information operation.

Unfortunately, it's not necessarily illegal for a government appointee to weaponize their position to target political opponents. What is illegal, though, is lying to Congress, and that's where the DOJ will look to hang its hat. Specifically, Brennan is accused of falsely stating during a 2023 hearing that the Steele Dossier was not used as part of the 2017 intelligence assessment he and Comey allegedly weaponized. He also told congressional members that the CIA opposed its inclusion.

Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), who led the criminal referral of Brennan, revealed that recently declassified documents showed the former CIA director not only pushing the Steele Dossier as part of the assessment, but that he overruled other CIA officials who objected.

Brennan’s assertion that the CIA was not ‘involved at all’ with the Steele dossier cannot be reconciled with the facts. As the newly declassified documents show, a CIA officer drafted the annex containing a summary of the dossier; Brennan made the ultimate decision, along with then-FBI Director James Comey, to include information from the dossier in the ICA; and, as discussed further below, Brennan overruled senior CIA officers who objected to the inclusion of the dossier material.

I'm not a legal expert, but in my opinion, the evidence here seems at least as convincing as what's involved in the Comey case, and given that a grand jury indicted the former FBI director, I can't imagine Brennan doesn't meet the same fate.

The usual caveats, though. When it comes to prosecutions with such heavy political overtones, especially targeting Democrats, a conviction is never guaranteed, no matter how solid the evidence. Former special counsel John Durham learned that the hard way (as did all of us) when his open-and-shut case against Michael Sussman, which literally included receipts for the USB drive used to launder the information in question, failed.

Brennan is one of the most nefarious government officials in modern history. He deserves to face accountability for destroying America's institutions in pursuit of his political goals. To the extent that he can only be charged for lying to Congress, he's lucky. He's done far, far worse over the years.
